Hi all,
just bought a 1974 engine for my safari and when i removed the sump i found these bits. does anyone know what they are?

used a magnet to remove them so they are not aluminium

well....
one is a drill bit (or part thereof)

the others look like the rivets which hold the timing cover oil seal in.

not good tho. looks like someone did the job in situ:(.
 
that will explain why the the oil seal cover is on with screws from electrical sockets then.

i only paid £34 for it and i am stripping it down.
 
the Rave manual tells ya to replace with self tapping screws.

but not to push the crap into the sump tho!.

The engine is being stripped down and rebored and having hardened valve seats, crank regrind.

hopefully i will find any more bits the last owner left in there.

The new pistons valves seal and full gaskit set along with new valve guides have arrived this morning. just have to find the size of the main and shell bearings and order new. Although the big ends i have removed look like new. but the numbers on these don't relate to any number in my parts catalogue the numbers are 534490 any idea what these sizes are?
