my dad who has just had a hip replacement has decided to sell his 300tdi disco and has bought himself a gaylander, i know!!

anyway my question is what could he honestly expect for his disco?

1996 very good condition externally, MOT till June 2010, tax till end of month, internally drivers seat worn, everything else excellent.
its dark metallic blue with alloys and always serviced

my guess between 500 and 1000 pounds obviously depending on mileage and how much welding it's going to need for its next MOT. Is it in france? i might be interested if it is.

Seems a bit mean.

If it is decent anywhere up to £2000.

I paid £2500 recently for a 1996, but it was a one owner, low mileage, no expense spared, not a mark on the seats or carpets, rubber mats on top of the Land Rover mats, FSH job! So far it has been faultless.

evening pikey, unfortunately its in Birmingham, as far as i'm aware it doesn't need any welding but a lot can change in 8 months, mileage is give or take 120,000

i prefer the sound of that this is one owner rubber mats etc, as mentioned before the drivers seat is worn because of his hip problem but apart from that in really good nick

Where'd ya get that from? forecourt price?

I'd have thought that £2500 would get you into Disco 2 territory, but have seen some very substantial prices being asked for Disco 1's recently.

We only paid £1900 for our 1999 D2 V8 and that had LPG and under 90000 miles on the clock, but a suspect engine.

Look around, I'd have thought £1.5k to £2k, more if you can find someone happy to pay more for a good one, and the 300TDi is a good engine.

Thanks for that Peter, how did your engine turn out

I was happy to pay for a good Disco 1. I have every receipt and invoice associated with the vehicle and it amazes me how much care somebody could take of a thirteen year old car. It feels and smells like a 2 year old car.

The TD5 isn't something I would consider.

I have to say the 300 tdi does seem to be a more reliable vehicle than the TD5 (I have both) but it does feel and sound very agricultural compared to the TD5, the good thing about the 300 tho' is that there are loads of spares available secondhand.

and have to add ease of repair without paying garages.

I paid 1000 for a p reg 300tdi in June,High mileage but well lokked after, full mot and service etc. I've seen quite a few around the 1500 mark, and some really tidy ones aoround 2k.
I suppose it depends on how quick you want to sell it.

to bne honest therte isn't a rush in selling, obviously my dad wants it moved on but he has already bought the new one, I'm sure someone will want it because it is in very good condition.

When I was looking in October, i saw a '98 S-reg 50th Anniversary Tdi go for £3500 on ebay, way too much for me.

However, I was willing to pay for no oil or water leaks, as new interior, full (recent)service history, low mileage, one owner, blemish free wheels, as new tyres, no nasty rusty bits, garaged, etc etc.

I am certain I will keep this car for another 13yrs, especially with the price of spares. I did another quick "in betweenie" oil and filter change, removed the egr, cleaned the black stuff etc and I am totally sold on this old bus.

Probably the best £2500 I have ever spent.
