Gaiters God or bad? Really depends on what style of driving you do, for only road then yes they keep the salt and grime etc off but if you do a lot of muddy off-roading etc they can trap the nasties and produce a nice quality grinding paste where you'd be better off hosing down the naked swivel instead.
 
Deff MOD.... BUT we'll worth fitting to any series....
Remember to soak them in oil or rub vaseline into them to make them supple for fitting AND make sure they don't rub/nip on anything when fitted. Because IF they are holed then they will actually be harmful to the swivels allowing wet and grit in there.
 
threading them can be a pita, someone told me to use a cable tie for each set of holes, much quicker. can't remember the exact number of ties, something like 8 per gaiter

+1 on soaking them, I used a lanolin based leather oil, stuck then in an old marge tub filled with it for a couple of weeks
 
never seen those before, more expensive than the leather but might be easier to fit, can they be put on with the axle fully assembled or do you have to take the swivel housing off to get it on
 
Those ones can be fitted without disassembly as they are bonded after fitting.
They have the massive disadvantage that you don't have to get naked, smear yourselve in Vaseline and rub leather all over your body.

tempted to try the rubber ones on the s3 which has nothing and the swivels are relatively new and still shiny, got leathers on the s1
 
I'd love to know how long those Britpart ones last. Every rubber item I've bought from Britpart has lasted about 10-12 months - prop gaiters, hi / low gear stick boot, bottom door seal...

Maybe these are different.
 
Even if the rubber doesn't rot, I can see those rubber ones letting in a dribble of water at some point, condensation occurring and a nice rusty climate forming.

I think I'd rather see what's going on and go without a gaitor. Leather type seem better.
 
From the comments so far I am assuming that Britpart is similar to Febi - some of their stuff is OK - but the rubber parts are ****e.

h well we'll see (well I will) what turns up from Paddocks...

May be you're doing it as well - may be not - some people get confused between Bilstein shock absorbers and Febi Bilstein - Febi Bilstein => basically a re-boxer of parts made by others - who if they supplied condoms to the first world would probably be the cause of a population explosion...

...Bilstein shocks - different company - pretty good products.
 
I fitted Britpart swivels as their complete kit about 10 years ago to my S3, still going strong now.
 
Am I right in thinking that you can't buy genuine series swivels direct from land rover. Or is it that they are too expensive.
