As title of thread,who is currently running biodiesel,and for how long and what problems if any have you had?Trying to keep this to proper Biodiesel (F.A.M.E.) only, and not just veg oil.
Just trying to get an idea of numbers,is it 10's...100's....?
Also be interested to hear from any D2 pioneers running on Bio and what issues they have had.
I'll start listing my own experience-Been running Bio now(homebrew) for 4-5 years in various diesel cars and the 300tdi for 3-4 yrs.
Only problem so far,the shaft seal on the injection pump leaked, and my bio noshed the cambelt. :confused: A new viton seal cured this :eek: ,and my leak off pipes got dissolved as well but both of these faults probably still happen with dino diesel anyway.
What is your experience with Bio
 
leakoff pipes melted, replaced with bio proof tube.
went solid in tank when it snowed.
shaft seal in transit leaked.

been running the disco for 2 years, transit for 5, pug 106 3, mostly on b100 but with some wvo in the summer.
 
been running my 94 disco 300tdi on bio for last 3 years with no problems apart from last lot of cold weather which caught me out but rest of time excellent.cost me £50 to fill the tank and get 3 weeks out of it so no complaints also she has never failed an MOT on emissions.
 
Been running my 300tdi for the past 22 months on mostly 100% bio, it has eaten through the leak of pipes twice, so I change them every couple of months as it only costs a couple of quid for a 3m roll.

Just added 10% petrol when we had the snow, and kept a bottle outside with some in so I could check it.

Recently it had begin to get hard to start from cold for some reason, taking about 10 seconds to fire up, then clouds of smoke. I went back to a tank of diesel (I coughed and spluttered well at the cost) and it started instantly from cold, I know my glow plugs are fine. I will just put up with the slow starting as I wont pay the pump price for diesel, plus it bloody stinks horrible compared to bio.
 
Iv not had my 300tdi long, probarly 3 or 4 month, been running 100% bio since I got it,

Only problem I had was when I first used it I had to change my fuel filter as it cloged up due to the bio cleaning all the ****e out my tank and fuel line,

Notice you have mentioned it fecked up your leak off pipe,

Could you tell me what and where the leak off pipe is and what it does,

Probarly sounds stupid not knowing what it is but I havnt a clue.

the rubber pipes from injector to injector
 
1.22 for decent bio around me. not wvo or svo its proper bio. run 100% all the time. replaced leak off pipes and no other problems so far. some times takes a while to start but a good battery sorts that out.

The guy that sells me mine runs his p38 on it for last year and said only problem he had was fuel filter and the little gauze blocked on the intank pump.
 
Mine starts no problem also, runs ok as well,

One of my nieghbours asked me if it made any difference to performance and economy but couldnt honestly answer him as I havnt run it on diesel.

Did anyone else find a difference when they went from diesel to bio with performance and economy ?

Iv heard some say its worse but worth it for the savings, others say it better economy wise and performance wise,

I cant see mine being better performance wise as its a slow auld thing the now :).

But I recon in winter I would run it 50 50 at the very least.

I had the old Fourtrak fieldman last winter and just ran that 100% diesel as I didnt want it gelling up because of the cold.
 
i definatly notice a bit more 'go' when the turbo hits compaired to diesel. but air con really makes it struggle pre turbo. other than that economy is roughly the same. just enjoy a bit more power
 
Bio tends to be a similar price to derv around my neck of the woods so has no real advantage to using it. The disadvantage is it tends to be rubbish quality and I go out to a lot of vehicles that won't start or run properly after filling up on bio. A couple of years back there was palm oil in it at one point.:eek::eek::eek:

palm oil is not a problem at the right time of year, i am on 100% palm oil bio at the moment.
