Yesterday, I started to wean my disco TD5 onto biodiesel.
I’ve started off with b50, but will gradually increase that, after a few fuel filter changes, until I’m running b100.
The first 50 miles has shown me that the TD5 will run happily on biodiesel. If I’d put 50% water, or 50% petrol in my tank, the car would have protested! On 50% biodiesel, it’s running beautifully. No lack of power, no missing, etc. If anything, it’s quieter and smoother.
I’ll update on results as I get further into the weaning process.
So far, so good.
 
Pukka bio can be run in anything. No need to wean etc

The only thing you might find is it will clog your fuel filter but only because it cleans all the **** out of the system. After that it’s all good.

Are you making it or buying it? Make sure to test it’s to specification

I’ve not heard of one being successful, even with pukka twin tank conversions.

I wouldn’t try it

It’s not hard to make good bio, worth it, and you can run it in any diesel then

Ok cool, just that I had a 200tdi run on fresh oil for over a year till I sold it, time to open another tab and search how to make bio ;)

I make my own bio and have been meticulous with this batch. I ran my tdi on it for 6 years without any issues, but did cut a few corners sometimes. I won’t take any chances with the td5.
The reason I’m weaning is that I don’t want all the **** to come out at once, or too quickly, and clog anything up. I’ll change filters every 1000 miles or so until I think it’s all cleaned out, then go on to b100.
I don’t know if there are any natural rubber parts in the system, td5’s are all new to me, but apart from that, I can’t see any problems arising.

I like the idea of making biodiesel, how much does a basic setup cost?

About £500 for a decent second hand processor and about £200 for your first lot of chemicals, which will make about 1000 litres. Then you’ve got to source you waste vegetable oil.
 
easy to make your own processor, get on the biopowered forum before you buy any bio processor, there is a lot of **** out there

Should be ok, , post 2000 ish vehicles had to be safe to run with bio fuels as part of eu regulations.

Even though the manufacturers all say not too

Bare in mind that theyre **** though. But for parts, it would be worth £70.
Really though, if you know nothing, regardless of the glossy website, theyre no good for quality product without some mods.

But, again, £70 is 1/10th of retail. £70 is worth it to someone who is willing to put in some time and effort to make it work properly. £700 (ok £699) is lauhable!

Now running on b100 with no problems. After researching and reading some pretty negative opinions on various forums, I was half expecting the dash to light up like a Christmas tree! But the reality is, the TD5 doesn’t even know I’ve changed onto biodiesel.
 
How's is this running since may Steve ?? I'm planning on switching ours to home made brew. I use to make it years back for our terrano but in the end I just ran it on straight SVO. I know the td5 won't run on that so bio time me thinks.
