yup-last winter,which was cold.To stop waxing I add 5-10% petrol (10% when really frosty).
The stuff they are selling is apparently from rapeseed which is one of the best-mine is from waste cooking oil,so I do not know the origin(oil type etc) exactly.(guessing mainly soya oil).
It is best to keep a small sample in a poly bottle on ur drive to see what is going on as weather gets colder,if it starts to set,add a bit more petrol.
As I said ,I know nothing of these people, but the add suggests they winterise it anyway between oct-march.

I have run mine on it for the past month and my Disco seems to love it, I took delivery of 200 litres this morning and I have another 200 coming next week. I was paying 70p but had to pay 80p today but thats still cheap by pump prices.

I asked the guy about winter use and he said he mixes 5% unleaded with it and he went through last years winter using that with no problems. If it gets really cold he said go 50/50 with normal diesel if I want to be safe.

I would say he is not paying fuel duty on it at that price, as the producer he has to pay the duty, he can not use your 2500 limit to get out of it. when he gets caught HMRC will look at all his customers so be careful with this one.

How can you say that? He is registered on Ebay as a business seller and also states that he provides a full invoice showing seperate VAT in the ad.

read the small print at the bottom of his advert, he has also failed to respond to my e-mail asking if vat and fuel duty are included in the price.

All i am saying is be aware of the possibility if you are concerned about staying on the right side of hmrc.

But if he issues you with an invoice showing seperate VAT how can HMRC chase the customer if he hasn't been paying it? not that it will bother me really as i doubt i would buy any from him anyway, just curious.

its the same as you buying fags that have come in with no duty paid you can still get done as well as the guy you got them from, like recieving stolen goods. ignorence is no defence.

its not the vat its the fuel duty thats the problem

His a bit far away from me anyway,

Any one know of a bio Diesel outlet near Ipswich suffolk.

Thank you

You REALLY dont want to fall out with Customs, they got rights of entry you wouldnt believe and warrants that follow you around....allsorts....tread careful

Oh yes, my mate's mum used to work for them, her crew used to tear peoples houses apart looking for stuff, and just walk away. At least the police have to put stuff back the way they found it (supposedly), tread careful indeed....

Very interested in home brew, will do some searching.....

if you are interested in making bio check my sig for a link to the best bio forum around.

I used B100, I've put over 1000ltrs through my 300tdi. Only had one bad experience where it blocked the fuel lines, but it was a dodgy batch. Just watered it down with pure diesel and it ran fine again

Depends how you brew it. If you make proper biodiesel yes you can, although I was advised not to go above 50%. Make sure you do it properly though as it's an expensive system to repair.

SO whats the best brew and how do you do it sounds interesting.

first you de-water your veg oil,
then heat to 50 Deg c
mix methanol and caustic soda in the correct proportions (methoxide)
mix methoxide with veg oil for an hour or so,
test quality
settle by product (about 20% of volume of oil)
remove byproduct and either settle bio for a couple of weeks or water wash to remove soaps.

test quality and put in tank if its ok.

note methanol is explosive, can make you blind and is toxic. caustic soda will make nice burns if you get it on your skin.

check my sig for all the info you need on biodiesl production.

See Hifly's post in # 14-also look at:Biodiesel & SVO Home and journey to forever website.
Making good biodiesel is something you have to work at-takes time and can be potentially hazardous-but it is very rewarding to run your bus,on your homemade fuel.
