Dear Gents
I am trying to locate source of major vibration. It happens at idle and smooths out around 2000rpm. It happens in N, D, 3,2,1 but in R in smoothes out again. Drives fine in all gears. I noticed what I thought was water pump noise a couple weeks back. Now it's quiet. Could a bad quiet water pump make the whole engine vibrate? Thanks for any ideas.

is it a rangerover 2.5 diesel bmw engine ? Check bottom pulley on the engine it's also a vibration damper they do come loose and some fail . If it's loose tighten the bolt in the centre 22mm I think . This loose bolt will affect your oil pressure too .
