hi folks

firstly i apologise for asking for info that may be elsewhere on the forum but i'm new here.

I have 235 / 55 r17's on my Freelander1 atm but have a spare set of 15" alloys. would a set of 31 10.5 r15's fit onto these alloys or would they be too wide.? :confused2:

if they would fit would they be too big for my jeep.? (i'm thinking of a 2 or 3" lift kit anyway if that makes a difference.

A,its not a jeep,its a land rover you muppet
B,read about IRD and VCU issues you are going to have
C, i own a real landrover so am much less tolerant than those in here*
*not wishing to offend you lot,mine is a tad different,as in its not car based

As long as all 4 wheels have the same size tyres, VCU and IRD can be left out of the equation - but by all means, check the VCU, to ensure it's not starting to go "stiff" whilst you're raising the bum off the ground the change the wheels :)


I'm not too familiar with offroader tyre sizes - but as long as the "10.5" means a width of 10.5", then they'll be 266.7mm compared to the 235mm of your alloys. It's only 1" difference, but it may well prove to be too much once you start putting side loads on the wheel (purely educated guess - as mentioned, I've got no experience of offroader tyres)

If I'd thought of it before I blew my wad :eek: on a Discovery I would've bought a Wrangler just to turn up to LZ11 in.. fact I'd probably keep it tbh.. :bolt:
 
Oh I thought you meant to drive over my sexuality lol.. :lol: Yes I sold the Defender and bought a Disco.. still got the Freelander for daily runabout though..

i got the freelander tomorrow for a six hour trip,wifes got the defender for running about,she might hate it a bit when i get back
 
I think the stock tyres on the 15" rims are 195 - so they are massively wider.

There are threads on here about maximum tyre sizes you can install - I'd suggest you do a search - the info doesn't change over time!

Its not just the height you have to worry about - you'll also have to worry about spacers to stop fouling the suspension.

should just about squeeze them on a hippo

You need same make/model/size tyres if running 4x4 on a Freelander 1.
Many times we have found the same size tyre is different between manufacturers.
Same can be said for different model tyre from the same manufacturer.
 
Big, chunky tyres.2" lift , Wheel spacers and modifications to the inner rear of the front arches to stop the tyres fowling. No IRD issues but has an insatiable thirst for osf driveshafts.

The Freelander looks great. But what I'd like to know is how many times you've hit that lamp post getting off the drive!
