Thinking of putting some of the above on my TD5...Anyone tell me how bad they are on the tarmac..I do 50/50 on road/off road so need a good balance for both..or will the All Terrains be better?
I have the colway MT and they are the same tread pattern. I get no more road noise than my AT tyres. The tyres are good as long as you dont want to drive on serious mud. They are quite poor on clay and will clog up very easily, but the tyres are excellent for green laning and off roading in most situations. I change my wheels when I want to go off roading but still they handle well on the road, if anything a little more understeer in comparison to the AT tyres. The colways are a damn sight cheaper than BF Goodrich MT's and in my experience do not wear any quicker. My advise is save some money and buy Colway MT (£55 a tyre) because you dont notice that they are remounds and perform as well as any other tyre.

Will I notice a lack of road grip compared to the Grabbers that are on their at the moment ( I would hope not - as the grip on wet tarmac on those is shocking)...I am taking it on a long road trip next month and dont want to be on a tyre that requires me to drive at 50 MPH if its raining!

They are a really good tire. My brother had them and my other brother has them, and they work/worked great. My older brother had them on his toyota pickup, they had 50,000 miles on them with half tread and that was with him roasting them for minutes on the rocks. Plus they are relatively cheap.

next question...size . I have 16inch boost alloys with 235/85 grabbers on them at the mom...Can I comfortably put 255/85 Muds on those wheels ?. Am I right in thinking this raises my Landy by about 3cm?
I put 235/85 R16 on my truck and the question about grip is that you are bound to loose grip due to the open tread on your tyres. But I still take my truck round corners at 65mph on wet roads. You just have to drive to the conditions and be aware that there is not as much grip as there is on AT tyres.

yep...trying to balance having a mud tyre thats not too wide( concentrating the weight on a smaller footprint--better grip - ?.am I being logical) and having the tyre a bit wider to give me a little bit more width/rubber to make up up for the bigger gaps between the tread when I am back on the tarmac

I had these on my 110, and I have to say they are amazingly impressive. Of course you are going to loose some traction over normal road tyres, but I don't ever remember getting into difficulty with them on. But then my old plodding 3.5 V8 wasn't quite as quick as the Td5!
My advice would be that unless you really are doing serious mud plugging stuff, then I think you'll find the AT's pretty capable, and safer on-road if you are worried about that. Depends what sort of off-roading you do. I've driven some pretty muddy tracks on my standard (well worn) road tyres and never got properly stuck! Just buying a set of General Grabber AT2's for the P38 as this weeks off-roading has left the Pirelli Scorp's missing chunks and covered in cuts, not to mention the OSR is now missing another 2mm of tread (now covering a rock 2000ft above sea level!!) The AT2's are decent tyres and very reasonably priced (£62+VAT for 255/65/R16) - the BFG AT's are supposed to be better, but I doubt I'd ever be able to tell the difference personally.

Ive got 265 75 r16 BFG mud terrains on my 90 and they are great. I drive 120miles a week on the road and spend the rest of the time offroad. Ive found cornering at speed on wet tarmac a little scarry but at about 55-60mph I feel no difference in performance compared to my normal road tyres.

hello im new to this forum and i have just got myself a disco1 200tdi that i have started to get redy for off roading, i was just wundering if you know what size tyres would be best that will go on my 16inch rims, i will be putting a lift kit on it as soon as i can afford it
