Has anybody tried Bp ultimate diesel ?? The same chap suggested trying it and to certainly stay away from supermarket fuel.
BP Ultimate certainly improved the mpg in my Disco. Even better was bio-diesel from a good supplier: same effect but much cheaper. If you can find a good supplier of bio (not just veg oil) I reckon you can use up to 50%. Higher cetane rating definitely makes a difference. You could try one of the fuel additives that claim to raise the cetane rating.
 
28-29 mpg is the norm now and have done nothing other than a shot of forte since last update.

Doesn't appear to have made a difference to the mpg but by god does she pick up quicker and sound smoother. Maybe the forte does help the mpg and I'm wasting it with a heavier right foot now. :doh:
 
pump diesel varies in energy content throughout the year,in winter it contains more naptha fractions to avoid waxing and in summer heavier oils-mpg will be worst in winter and highest in summer.The mix is adjusted at the refinery ,so you have no choice but to buy a lower energy fuel in winter

Late last year I bought a D3 with a TDV6 engine and decided to add 5% two-stroke oil at each fill-up. Over time, sensors are cleaner for longer. It is easier to break 30mpg too.

Can the same method be used on TD5s?

I've been using two stroke in my 2005 110 TD5 for nearly a year. It's definatley smoother and quieter. There is quite a lot on here about it.
 
The "two stroke oil in diesel" debate is endless. I was putting 1% in my TD5 until my local LR lndy told me to "stop doing it, the TD5 doesn't like it and you will do damage"
I used to put two stroke in my Transit Connect tdci and it was, or appeared to be, smoother with a couple of extra MPG.
 
350 mile trip over the past week mix of motorway, country lanes, built up and traffic. Averaged 30 mpg and was driving 'hard' on occassion too. Plus the landy was fully loaded with at least 200kg of extra weight.

Bigger intercooler going in soon so that should/could raise the MPG up too

So all the little mods n sods are helping greatly. I reckon without all the heavy mods/road tyres etc I could hit 35mpg.
 
Mine 110 just goes faster & faster with all the mods I have done to it and drinks more and more!! when my lad was learning to drive in it a tank of derv just went on for ever ! Amazing ! bet we were getting about 35 mpg !
 
My TD5 90 has a Hannibal roof rack and runs on 305 x 16 Pro Comp Mud Terrain tyres and a 2" lift. It has a mild tune, EGR removed and a bigger intercooler with a big bore stainless exhaust. I get a steady 30 mpg, even with the Maggiolina roof tent on top. I can detect no difference with supermarket or premium diesel fuels, nor with trying various additives.
The only thing I never do is drive continuously at more than 60mph.
 
A remap is unlikely to help, you'll just boot it more.

I've got a TD5 D2, and I get ~430 indicated miles per 85 litre fill up. I've got a hybrid turbo, big IC, Alive map etc. Even if I don't hoon it I still get pretty much the same mileage.

That works out 23 miles per UK Gallon.

It's even worse if using US Gallons, then its 19.1
 
The map does help, once the novelty has worn off and you start driving properly. Ive noticed an increase of around 2 - 3 mpg after a map.

Used to be around 27 - 28 mpg on the Mway now its closer to 29 - 30mpg average. Without booting
 
I know this is an old thread but thought it worth sharing

24 mpg when first bought
25-26 mpg with full service and brakes
29-32(!!) after ecu remap

This is running on 265/75 16 general grabber at2's.
Hoping to get a 1.2 or overdrive so may get even better!!
 
Which remap are you running?

I had mine remapped by Alive, it went well and used less fuel but smoked like a tramp steamer.
I'm talking great clouds of white smoke on full power acceleration, probably unburnt diesel?
I had to get it put back to standard, so wasted £360 on the remap plus £125 to get the ECU reset at Land Rover.

I'd like to try another remap though.
 
Oh mate I feel for you, I bloody hate wasting money!!

I went for a dynachip remap in the end, cost me £250, I went for as much low down torque as possible, with vast improvement in the mid range too! So Mike said I had a "very strong stage 1".
I've replaces intercooler with new standard size one as previous had a hole, and I've made an ally blanking plate that blocks off from exhaust manifold as I didn't fancy spending dollar on a removal kit etc. Also new maf which makes a big difference!

I can now pull 5th from literally 25mph with no hesitancy or struggle at all, makes for a lovely relaxed driving, overtaking just put your foot down, no gear changing!! And also no smoke, I made sure this wasn't going to introduce any unreliability at all, as id rather of stuck with no remap at all than worry about it all the time!
