Pretty much as the title says, I have 2 genuine barn find 2 door Range Rovers and one I'm going to sell on and one I'm going to restore (well that's the intention, if I find time :D).

One is very original (1981 brown one) but needs some welding buts still pretty solid and looks the best on the outside and the other has a battered body (1978 beige one) but really solid underneath, both have been waxolyed and have good solid chassis.

I was thinking of cleaning up the one with the better bodywork (1981 brown one) and more original looking and selling it on for restoration. I'm in the process of sorting the clutch and getting it running, it does run but hard to start and does have a rebuilt engine which is a bonus. After getting it running, I was going to give it a good jetwash and polish it up a little, give it a light valet etc and put any broken bits of trim back together and just making it more presentable and tidy for sale.

My question is, do I clean it up and make it look nice and presentable as that's what I would do with any other car and I'm pretty good at it. Or do I leave it looking a mess, complete with hay and farm mud and advertise it as a genuine barn find? If you guys were looking for a 2 door for resto, would you prefer one that is running and nice and tidy to start with, or one that looks like it's just been pulled from a barn?

Think most would prefer one that has been fully restored for the price of a barn find. Tight buggers on here. :D:D

Photograph it in it's "as found" state then do the tidy up/valet as you suggest and above all get it running as well as possible - best of both worlds - good luck,

Yes I was actually pondering on doing that, might just be the best solution.

Id rather see it as well as possible in pics (so clean) and some would say its worth more if left (if people are to see it in the flesh id leave it dirty but if going on ebay put pics of both states)

I think keep it as a barn find and advertise as so on ebay. There are loads of people who specifically search for barn finds

Honesty is the best policy. If I was buying I'd want to see photos in its 'as found' state and then see it cleaned up enough that I could have a good look around and see whats what. People who buy resto projects won't be fooled by some spit and polish. Good luck. Hope it goes to a good home

Question?

How does DVLA treat barn finds as pressume they will not have been sorn for quite some time? Will there be a fine for that and lack of insurance if not sorned?

Just wondered.....

Thanks for all the input guys, it's been really helpful. I'll try and get some pics up if I can get them up from my iPhone.

If only I had the space and the money. Lovely Mate keep us updated on the one you keep.

How did you get hold of that one. It's a solid looking rangie. X1 I'd buy if I had the dosh. Good period colour too.

I bought one off a farmer who had it in a barn for 10 years then while buying that, he told me his other farmer friend had one down the road in his barn too. I thought too good to be true so went and had a look and a couple days later did a deal on the brown one. They are both best friends and when one bought one the other did so they could both go out in their 2 doors. They were busy and just lost interest and parked them up, as people do, with intention of restoring them to former glory some day. Now he's called me to say his other friend has one sitting in a hedge that he wants to sell. It would be rude not to take a peek, wouldn't it? ;)

Btw if anybody is interested pm me for price etc and I can also arrange delivery on a flatbed.

I'm still struggling to bleed the clutch. Fitted a new master but can't successfully bleed it. I've also just fitted a new fuel pump as that was shot too. Had it running yesterday but ran a bit rough, but not been fired up in 10 years. I need to check plugs, leads, dizzy cap and also going to change oil and filter for sure.
