want to attempt to try and soundproof the majority of my 90 for various reasons... Ive read about bitumin based stickers which i already have under the bonnet and its great, but im looking for something to in the door frame, footwell, rear door and basically all of the back as its just bare metal around the glass. It does have a full floor rubber mat which covers the wheel arches inside but thats about it. any pointers would be great

I just started making my matting for the defender seat box I haven't got £200 for the one from Exmoor trim however I do have some time and some materials kicking about: Pics to follow
 
I've been redoing mine recently as we are off up to Scotland for Xmas and the wife will nag like chuff if its noisy.

In my van back 90 I have the exmoor trim footwell and seat box and transmission tunnel matting, I have just put the standard stuff back as well that does the top and sides.

Then

In the rear I have made and carpeted panels for the sides and rear window panels (hard but look good) and I have also made and carpeted speaker boxes to sit under rear windows behind which I have a bit of dynamat type stuff. I also have dynamat type stuff just little 12x6 panels behind the side panels. I have also just bought 30 sqft of similar stuff which I am gonna start applying to various places tomorrow. Maybe all roof! Plus I have rubber matting on floor and on top of wheel boxes.

Side panels are defo worth making as you can mount cargo control stuff on em I use slidetite stuff quite alot.

PS If you have a big budget have a look at the mudstuff website their side panels look good and they come with foam padding to stick behind them on panels.

I used flashband in my footwells, gearbox tunnel, rear wheel arches etc and has completely deadened the sound. Looks neat and only cost me thirty quid as well...
 
cheers for all this guys, i was looking into that dynamat stuff and yes its slightly expensive for not a lot really! Might just go with some more of that bitumin stuff that ive put under the bonnet. Also, for the rear ive looked into the flashband stuff but not sure what it does? Was going to try it out but also been told that it might be a good idea to use some bitumin stuff and then green ply over the top and finish with some carpet just glue gunned on. Anyone reckon that their is an easier, cheaper and faster way to do this?? cheers
 
Flashband the rear arches.

Made it a lot quiter, in terms of road noise. I can't hear the rear wheels spraying water up any more. Really pleased with it from first hand experience. Looks gd too.

I have some left-over carpet underlay (compressed foam type) which I plan to use to line the whole of the rear interior of my defender van, then I'll probably put carpet on top too. First I will cut the underlay to size, then spray on some aerosol glue to both surfaces, then once the glue has set stick the underlay to the roof. I used this aerosol glue to re-cover a motorbike seat and it works so well.

Gonna use some of this stuff myself. Did you do the whole surface or just patches?
 
I've just glued together some pvc material from Dunelm glued to 6mm rubber which is glued to 5mm camping mats its bloody heavy and It will go over my seat box area. Pics to follow. its not dissimilar to the RRC lining. I may do another layer of foam camping mats aswell and then fit in in the 90.

Sounds good for the floor - easier to clean than carpet.
 
glued down porous materials will become very moist, sooner or later you'll be wanting to pull it out to let the area dry out

this was my attempt its ok but hot in the summer pls excuse the army material job lot carbooty :doh:
i used lino/cushion flooring for the back coz the dogs..
