edmunds.com has vehicle reviews of all different flavors

I don't know of one place that just talks about 4*4 SUV vehicles.

edmunds is oriented towards new vehicle reviews

Hi,

I went there, but what I was hoping for was a comparison between SUVs
with a rating for each. It seems they treat each separately without any
comparison's so it is difficult to know, which one is best.

Thank you

trucktrend, which is just a subset of motor trend.
Kinda depends on what type of 4x4 you have in mind.

If you are looking for glorified station wagons, the mainstream
car magazine sites are good places to start.

If you are looking for something that will get you *back* to the
road when you try off-roading, you'll want to look for the
more hardcore oriented offroad magazine type sites.

There is no *best* There are ones suited for *you* and your skill
level and the type of terrain you want to drive on, plus whether or
not you need to compromise for commute duty. Then there are other
perfectly good 4x4's suited for someone else.

e.g. the SUV of the year from Motor Trend is the Land Rover LR3.
Another rag nominated the Grand Cherokee Hemi. Both of these are
reasonably decent 4x4's although many will justifiably claim that
the older Grand Cherokee would come back from places the newer one
will have trouble going. The Nissan Pathfinder is a decent 4x4
for a lot less money. The Toyotas are also rugged. At the high end,
the VW Touareg TDI, the Porsche Cayenne, the Range Rover Turbo, the
Hummer Alpha 1, the Pinzgauer, etc.

Then there are the station wagon style models such as the X3/X5,
the Mercedes ML, etc.
