This will be easy for some knowledgable Td5 owner to answer.
Have just purchased my first Disco, manual, 2002 reg with 52000 on the clock.

It is going in on Thursday for the upgrade Jobby, ECU, intercooler, chip. Metal and silicone turbo pipes and air filter.

Now what will be the best oil to use. Synthetic, Semi-Synthetic or just the ordinary diesel oil. I understand Synthetic is very expensive.

The reason for your choice would also be appreciated.

Thanks

You will no doubt recieve loads of responses, all differing opinions!

I use Chevron 10-40 fully synthetic, exceeds all the required ACEA (or whatever) specifications as set by Land Rover... It's also BMW long-life approved so it's good oil. £9.99 (+vat) from my local cash & carry (avoid Halfrauds for decent oil prices) for 4 litres. 2 cartons, and you save enough for topping-up as well.

I was told by my mechanic that all td5's run on synthetic oil from new and putting anything else in does them no good, theres my 10 pence worth.

go with a good semi synthetic at 5w/30 and as most poeple on here will point you towards the difflock guys as there stuff is good but i would not use 10/40 as its to thick to give good cold start protection as it will take that little while longer to lubricate the vital engine parts and is also harder for the allready frugal oil pump to circulate the oil, cheers phil
