Seriously, I've launched boats for years and never so much as got my wheels wet!
The best way is to fit a front hitch as that gives you more length before the wheels dip.
Get a Discovery to do it with but DON'T get it wet!:doh:

I think if you combine ODDIE and STORM you've got your answer.
Buy a cheap, basic diesel Landy and select more on the basis of what you can wash out most easily after use. You might even be the rare Landy owner who drills holes in his car to let water in and out rather than cursing the factory and the demon rust.

Guess it's gotta be a defender then.
Jeez, they expensive ain't they - can't get anything under 200,000 miles for less then £2000 at the moment.
I'll keep looking though - was hoping to spend around £500 but will go to £1000 as it will be useful for doing towing an stuff round here in the off season. Don't look like I'll get much for that kind of money, may need to up the budget a little me thinks.

Erm........... yeah............... well now I'm actually with you on this one after looking - when I said cheap and nasty I didn't realise JUST how cheap and nasty (if at all possible) it was gonna be for £500.
Deffo gotta up that budget - here's a thought: "Er..... wifey, you know that Holiday you wanted this year, well Storm say's........"

An L series Freelander would fit the bill. Relatively cheap to acquire and easy to clean. Plastic bumper trim will help minimise rust spots. That said, they do float easily. So much for being "hippos".
A cheap disco may be an option but the rust issues on those are already bad enough without adding to the problem. It's not just the water that gets them, it's also the salty air. That's why I'd never live too close to the sea.
Another option is the Jeep Cherokee XJ. The 4.0 petrols are super cheap to acquire and are powerful. The petrol engines are bullet proof too, shame the same cannot be said for the 2.5 diesel models. If you're going to be doing few miles, then I'm guessing fuel economy won't be a major issue.
Cheap? I was looking for one awhile back and all of the ones I found were expensive compared to Landys.

Pajero or the above Cherry would be best. Plenty of them about the £500 mark and who cares if they rust away? Auto too which will be a great help..
Try and find an EX RNLI one they used to get wet a fair bit same as some Coast Guard ones and never really seen a rusty one!!!!
Salt water will not effect your wagon any more than any other water,

1. RNLI ones are rarely used in water, if a boat needs launching then they use launch tractors. "if" a vehicle launches a boat then they will always try and find fresh water to launch or the vehicle is subjected to extreme washing off with fresh water afterwards.
2. Our last Coastguard Landrover was literally falling apart due to rust, the CG ones spend a lot of time on beaches etc and only recently (the last 10 years) have the CG management embraced the preventative maintenance ideas! (all vehicles get waxoiled every year now) When we took the Landrover back to Southampton and collected our new one it travelled the last 15 miles on the back of a truck cos it broke in half!!
There are very few Landrovers in CG service these days, most are Hilux's or Navara's.
3. Salt water is massively corrosive and MUCH MUCH MUCH more than fresh water, whoever told you that salt water won't do much damage was either lying or dreaming!!
