I have a load of engine parts from my P38 diesel to clean, the worst is the plastic inlet manifold which has a good coating of thick sticky black gunge, just wondered if anyone has recommendations for a good degreaser or solvent to use as its difficult to get brushes right in to all the spaces, most of the other parts will clean up ok as they are open like the sump. Also I need to flush the intercooler through.

This stuff was pretty good for cleaning my block & heads of baked on grime, but be careful not to leave it too long. I did mine in a plastic storage bin, and then jet-washed the block & heads to get all the crap off.
 
If it was critical engine,must be clean stuff I would take it for a hot wash to a engine place. Then I'd use gunk or jizer and small brush. Toothbrush. Then blast with a jet wash. Do it again until it's right. Hot jet wash is best.
 
Send it to Bemble, he's got a proper parts washer that he said was absolutely free to use for all LZers.......:D




Gunk is all I use, seems to do the job.
 
I use a product from a company called Diversy, not sure if they are still around as I have a lot of stock. The product is called Ticket, it works well and is water soluble, it's concentrated and needs to be diluted for use. Apply, leave and then jet wash. Safe on plastic too.

CTC,carbon tetrachloride Was that the stuff in the old Pyrene brass extinguishers as I remember people used them to get dabs of grease of clothes, probably all empty if there actually was a fire!
