Curse you Jon! you appear to have the only good beige leather driver's seat in existence and you're selling it!
Have you any idea how long I've been searching for one?

I dont agree autos aree better for towing, they use alot more fuel and the torque plate is never fully engaged till 53mph so alot of the time you are 'slipping'. Off road they are easier, not better, I prefer the control of the manuals over the ease of the autos but its all to preference...

If you want one just for towing and off road fun then look at this (its mine BTW) :

1996 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY ES 300TDi - OFF ROAD TRUCK 4x4 HIGH QUALITY PARTS USED | eBay

IF we were talking about DII TD5, then your info about auto gearboxes is innacurate as you TC lock-up in third gear at 45mph and that makes a big difference.

Why have you got a picture of jons disco and saying you have it for sale, on your website. you flog salvage??

First of all I DON'T HAVE A WEBSITE and second, I just clicked on the ebay link, looked at the advert and realised I'd looked at it before....what are you getting at here???

I find 200 or 300 autos to be absolutely gutless when towing... most recently during our charity tractor drive, we were using a Disco 300 Auto to pull a 14 foot Ifor Williams trailer as a support vehicle.

Whilst the tractor was driving under its own power, the trailer was approximately 1,000kg. Even with this relatively light load, it really struggled, and when the tractor was loaded and the trailer weight was around 2,300kg, it barely moved at all. At one point a hill on the A303 slowed us down to 15mph!

I would suggest a 300 manual at the very least... if you're towing anything approaching 'heavy', a Td5 or a V8 would be a much better bet.
