Hi all...new on here so please bear with me...

I Have a 2002 Discovery 2 XS TD5 Manual
Looking to getting a fault code / diagnostic reader for it...

What options do i have...

I'm a fairly competent mechanic and have had it a year and a half now, everything is serviced and it runs well...but i would like to get something to check it all out...

I want to keep it totally standard and have no plans to modify in the future...i mainly use it to tow my car transporter and as a family car...

I am planning to swap the front windscreen for a heated one when it eventually fails its MOT for the screen (got an advisory for chips last time so wont be long)...i understand you need to program the computer to 'activate' this feature?...

i would like to be able to give it a really good check electronically to see if there are any old error codes ...

so my first option is to just by a cheap universal code reader...but am i right in thinking all i could do is find any engine fault codes...things like the ABS and other ECU's cant be read by these cheap options...?

I have looked at the Hawk-eye system, from what people say its good but quite pricey at £300 for what it can do?...

Any other options...?

I like the idea of the live data features as i would like to monitor temperatures when towing...but it has never let me down so far so this would be more of a novelty

So can anyone point me in the right direction...

would like to ensure there are Zero fault on the whole of the car really...would like something that leaves no stone unturned for all the electrical systems in the car...anything else like live data and programming functions would be a bonus, but don't wanna spend £500 odd extra just to get my windscreen working when i could pay a dealer £50 to enable it...

Many thanks for all you comments...

I have the Hawkeye which communicates with all the D2,s systems.
The Nanocom does all the same things as tha Hawkeye with the addition of key fob and suspension height programmimg. The Nanocom also is suited to dash mounting for use as a display.

I have a nanocom V1 which does everything except the gearbox (I think).
Is a very good system, I used it for setting up windscreen, clearing ABS faults, checking & clearing engine codes. Also used as a display for coolant temp when I had a leak & can be connected to a laptop as a live display - but is a bit distracting!

I've sold my Disco , and the nanocom is surplus to requirements - if you're interested I'm looking for around £175 - In Nottingham

I have the Hawkeye, very pleased with it, simple to use, although not had the pleasure of using a Nanocom so not sure which is better.
