Hi,

I'm 19 and I currently drive a Fiat Punto (fist car) I pay £2600 a year with a smart box. I want to get a Defender when I collect my first years no claims. A few months ago I typed in a few quotes for a defender, both 90 and 110) and the quote came to around £950 with a few modifications. - This was with Flux Direct.

Now the time has come for me to buy one and I typed a quote in today and the quote has changed to £2500 for a 110 . I understand that quotes can fluctuate but I will need insurance soon when mine runs out.

Can anybody recommend a company that offers reasonable quotes? or what I could do to get the original price for Flux Direct.

Thanks,

Reducing your annual mileage helps. down to say 5000 or maybe 7500.

That will bring the premium down.

I think for a while you'll have to feel the pain until you build up more no claims.

Also call flux and discuss your options.

I've always been with the NFU, not the cheapest but definitely the best. They have offices everywhere so if you have a problem you can call in and talk to a human being. In a moment of weakness a year or so back (at renewal time) I got a quote from Flux, it was a fair bit cheaper. I made a point of asking what happens if I wish to cancel the policy part way through, would I have to pay the whole year? I was told I can cancel any time without penalty. I went ahead and paid for the years policy.

Two months later I sold the vehicle and advised Flux the policy was no longer required. After waiting a while for the refund of the balance, I phoned them up to find out why no refund had been made. I was informed that if I cancel the policy I was liable for the full term of the policy and would not be getting a refund. The woman was arrogant and unhelpful, unlike when I paid them the money when they were polite and helpful.

Thankfully it was an easy process to go back to the NFU when I bought another vehicle. I have all my insurance with NFU (house, building, motor etc). When I was broken into for the second time this year the NFU couldn't have been more helpful. I put the claim in on the Monday and had the cheque on the Thursday.

So yes, Flux is cheap but it's cheap for a reason.

Thanks for all the help.

Sorry to hear about your house getting broken into. Will take all into consideration.

Thanks

at 19 I doubt NFU will touch you unless your folks are with them.

Agree NFU are great - my parents house flooded (dodgy toilet valve) whilst they were in NZ - NFU were incredibly helpful sorting it all out.

NFU might not be for you depending on age and location , as they have become more selective on who they will cover of late. But have been with them for years and they are worth the extra IMHO

NFU agents often dont have a clue as to what is covered and what isnt! They misquoted the RTA to me. Had to put them back in their box. Other than that its flexible. It should be - if you have NFU insurance you are a member of the mutual. Mutuals should not make profit - the surplus is to be used for the benefit of the members. Unfortunately with NFU the surplus is greatly diminished by the extreme fatcat salaries and perks paid to the chief exec and board, not to forget the golden parachutes they have in reserve.
If you ever need to make a reasonable claim on property insurance due to damage - employ a professional surveyor, or the "repair" which may be carried out by a conractor appointed by the insurers might be miminal and superficial (looking good - but not what it should be).

and most do not cover green lanes. Jordan from Adrian Flux has pointed that out before.
And few cover for pay and play sites

I just love these insurance threads, they're all the same but bloody funny non the less.

I'm with Herts Insurance which I purchased through Flux Direct

£479 on a 3000 limited mileage policy for a 200tdi Disco 1, with mods declared too.

Obviously as with any organisation there is a range of knowledge levels, the branch I deal with are spot on with the landies. Re RTA a lot of modern coppers aren't to up on that either . Didnt you get a mutual discount when renewing your policies?
