Gwyn Lewis does the best 2" lift kit around and he can customize it to suit your vehicle perfectly, he's a very knowledgable guy, I would give him a call if I was you. you can have the 2" lift that you want without compromising the on road handling. Iv got a full set up from him waiting to go on my current rebuild once my new chassis arrives, it's not the cheapest kit but you get what you pay for.

I was talking to a friend of mine about what set up to get, he has a land rover parts shop and he used to be a terrifirma dealer, he was saying he used to get loads of people returning the terrifirma shocks because they were broken/leaking, now he sells then britpart kit and hasn't had a problem with them, apparently they have got there act together more recently and are producing better quality parts

Hi All,

I've looked in the usual places, Paddock, Craddock, ebay etc and as I am fairly new to the LR game, I don't want to make a costly mistake in buying a crap set up, therefore can you guys point me in the right direction to purchasing a good 2" lift setup? Won't be doing much off roading, just pulling a trailer once in a while.

Defender is currently stripped so thought I might as well change/replace nearly everything....... I've got the bug!!

Thanks guys!!

big tyres and lift cos it looks cool... ok :bowl:

if you are going to drive mainly on the road a lot, then standard and road tyres/at's make more sense for that setup

large tyres will chuck gearing out, slower to accelerate. mud style will be rumbly and crap in the wet.

2 inch lift will make it roll more on the corners.

they are designed to do a bit of off road as standard you know ;)

but whatever floats your boat :)

Frankly, from what you've said, I'd suggest not to bother with a 2" lift, but simply go for HD standard height springs. The suspension won't droop as much, so the vehicle will ride higher, it'll stiffen the handling a tad on road and make pulling trailers a little more civilised with less pitching and wallowing. If you only spend a little time offroad it'll hardly make a difference.

Where are you, roughly? Maybe someone local could loan you a set of springs to try, the rears particularly can be changed in 10 minutes, the fronts a little longer .. If you have to ask how to do them, let someone else change them while you watch .. ;)

Its all dependent on what your budget is.

Gwyn Lewis and Devon4x4 are hard to beat. Both very knowledgeable and helpful.

Unless planning on regularly carrying a lot of weight high up, do not buy HD springs. Progressive is the way to go.

Just a little edit: Hard suspension doesnt equal good handling. It just means crash, bang, rattle ride quality. Remember, a defender isnt supposed to handle like a go cart. If you want that buy a hot hatch...

It really is. Only thing that let's it down.

Literally after my first off road (only a month old) session bought it home and the paint flaked off from the jet wash.

Pretty crap considering the price of the kit. :(

+1, my TF ones have only been on 4 months and are already pretty rusty. I haven't even jet washed them yet and the paint is flaking off

Had a disco once fitted with police spec rear springs sat up slightly at the back but was great for towing and carrying loads :)
