Hi all, need a little advice, im hunting for the best place and option to run a decent 12v wire from the battery, ive tried the positive terminal securing nut but that doesnt work as its tapered so splits any connectors so is no good, however i notice on the terminal that there is an unused thread that i could make use of to connect a wire to, and there are also the main feed wire to the fuse box in the bay, does anyone know this thread size by any chance?

Or is there a better option? I know theres alot of accessories that need their own feeds that get fitted so any advice for a strong live feed would be great, and the easier to secure to the better, trying to run my little sub in the back for my new stereo! Thanks, Ryno :)
 
In your second picture, the Red cable goes directly to the battery and the Brown cable is the high current feed from the alternator through a 150 amp fuselink.
The place to connect your amplifier would be under the red connector, of course through an inline fuse of the correct size.
 
Depends on the current draw for the amp for you little sub. I would still try take it from the battery terminals with correct fuse rating, just use an eye loop the size of the lug bolt.
 
For the effort involved, I would (its on my own to do list) be tempted to run a live feed from either the battery terminal or the terminal with the red connector (either should be fine) into a small fuse box (you can buy them from halfrauds or online) using a fairly hefty wire.

You then have a set of fused feeds ready for future add-ons. Looks much neater (and much more sellable in the future!) than having multiple leads running off the terminals.

Thanks guys, ive an inline fuse linked up already, had it in my old car but need to extend the live cable as the disco is much longer, the amp runs 400w RMS but i never have it anywhere near that, just enough to notice it and support the standard speakers for better quality, so havent got 1200watts of vauxhall corsa waking people up, will try the fit!

Thats a good idea! However im not sure i'll have any other accessories just yet but when i do i'll remove it all and re do it more organised, with a box or sort, to support any additions! :)
 
You should also use around a 1 fared capacitor in the system.
Pic of ring terminal for battery lug bolt...you could get a thicker one.

where u can cut ur old one off, fit this , then has some spare terminals to run wires off into a fuse box or even a single fused wire to ur amp ??
 
As @Barbados has already said, use at least a 1 farad capacitor.
If you do use a cap., connect it as close to the amplifier as possible and use the heaviest cable you can manage. Try to avoid additional connectors along the length, in other words, use a single length.
Fit the fuse as close to the battery as you can.
 
He will need a heavy duty fuses, I use the style like these. OP said he has a fuse inline already, but this is what I use.

Cheers for the help chaps, will have a looksie see what will fit best as the original wiring that came with it and was used previous is linked up, might get new terminals anyway as they didnt tighten down too well and had come off before! Before i gave em a sort but theyre not great :)
 
Have ordered some new terminals, with the connectivity option, and a full wiring kit enough for me to totally re wire it, not that thats necessary, so will be set to also add a fuse box in the future :)
 
Fitted the new terminals the other day but still not 100%, all my wiring is done and working with stereo BUT the terminals on the battery are ever so slightly too small for the new clamps even at full tightening, the best ive managed is tightening the clamp fully then hammering it down onto the post but its still not tight could lift off if you half tried to pull it. So playing on me mind is driving down the road hitting a bump and going dead because a terminal comes off! been looking at different tricks to sort this and noticed battery shims etc. to fatten it up, but im driving 100 miles for a weekend away tomorrow so been looking at copper tape, etc wrapped around the post, any ideas? :)
 
Not really what copper tape is designed for.... i'm not sure how conductive the adhesive side of the copper tape would be... plus any gaps between layers of tape aren't going to be a good thing

The proper solutions are, realistically, smaller clamps or a battery with a bigger terminal.

You can get adapters like this http://www.autozone.com/batteries-s...inal-end-and-adapter/257147_0_0?checkfit=true which will increase teh size of the terminal - pop it on, then clamp your clamp tight around it.

Cheers mate I will be getting the shims to fatten it up later its just for the weekend they won't get here in time, the original clamps didn't tighten down properly either, might even strap it down its not gonna come off but leaving me paranoid
