Hi everyone,
I just finished replacing the fan clutch bearing, belt tensioner and the radiator.
I started the engine and watched for licks and strange things and see the tensioner jumps every few sec for about 1 cm, it didnt roll constantlly in the same spot . Is it nornal? I didnt see it before but maybe i didnt look for it that carefully.
Thanks in advance

The tensioner on any engine will move about as the revs change, more as you rev it. As the crank snatches on the belt when a cylinder fires, the tension increases briefly.

I think i understood you.... as the rpm will increase the tensioner will feel more changes in the tension per sec but we will not see this as it get "stable" somewhere at the everage?

An engine doesn't turn idle perfectly smoothly so you'll see it tug on the belt and the tensioner will move, same if you blip the throttle

Hi, I put a Dayco belt/tensioner kit on mine & it did exactly the same,I even put the old bits back on because I presumed something was wrong:rolleyes: but it was the same & like you put it down to 'I didn't notice it before'. I've since replaced the alternator with a new Hella unit & the tensioner still jumps about. It's done about 4,000 miles without issue.
