Belt tensioner and idler, quality of parts? looking to replace these, Landrover ones are exspensive, hows the other fair by Quality and price?

Is yours gubbed, or is it something you want done just in case. If a just in case, 30 odd quids worth a punt and keep the original spare.

Dayco make the original, look for their stuff, I got two a couple of years ago for under £20 each.

Same with our Mercedes bus, the tensioner is megabucks from Mercedes but fairly reasonable OEM. It's the OM904LA engine, like a bigger TD5 but with four cylinders and 4.25litre :)

wel changed the tensioner yesterday, worse squeel, it happens on start up and switch off, so put the old tensioner back on, both parts are genuine, belt is a Dayco, checked all pulleys for play, everything is ok, even the big damper at the bottom,
New genuine belt maybe????????????

Sure its not the aircon pulley?

Try increasing the tension on the aircon belt, they need to be very tight and this worked on mine and stopped the squeal that I thought was due to the main belt.

run the car without the belt, but only a short time as water pump wont be pumping, if noise is still there then its not the belt,
but from your description id be looking at the crank pulley

I tend to think its the belt, mine was just the same, annoying screech / chirp switching off. Belt replaced with an aftermarket one made no difference, spoke to an independant LR mechanic who advised only using genuine LR parts belt on the Td5. Changed it and perfect ever since :)

noise is from the top, crank pulley is very firm,
i would nearly put money on the belt!

Check the exhaust manifold gasket. Common problem and can sound just like a squealing belt.

no it's a belt thing,

no it's a belt thing,
Have you tried to put the old one back on just to discount the new belt from the noise.
Also we use a belt dressing in a spray can and it stops any noisy belts.
ps its that good my boss locks them up so we all don't nick them lol. I will get the details tomorrow if I can for you.

new belt arrived today, bagged landrover, contitech brand on the belt, took old one off, Dayco!! came with the service kit, held them side by side, the Dayco one is a lot thinner as say 3mm, the contitech is 4mm, a lot more substantial, the dayco one back side of ribbed side is smooth, the contitech one is rougher as in webbed/canvas feel, put new contitech on, fired her up, no squeal, stopped her no squeal, problem solved!!! a lot better, so my advise is buy the better parts, sod the cheap ****e!
