driving along today and one of the belt pulleys decided it didn’t like my driving and jumped out from under the bonnet! Battery light came on and the next roundabout was interesting with no power steering!!!
Have ordered both pulleys and a new tensioner and belt, all seems pretty straight forward. Anything else I should do or anything to be extra careful of??

I would be trying to work out what caused the failure,

Plus it might help if you state what engine it is .

Cheers

Ahh yeah, it’s a td5 non a/c and non ace model.
The bearing failed (completely fell apart) on the top right pulley, ironically was on my way to a mates workshop to have a proper look over the car (not had it long) when it happened.
The other bearings were slightly worn, didn’t run as free as you’d expect so decided to do the lot.

I would wait at the side of the road hoping a lady In Stocking happens along...

Failing that it’s an easy job, pop the rad cowl off for a bit more space

The woman said they were too expensive these days to give away!

I ran out of time so a mate had to do it for me instead. Pulleys and tensioner off and new ones on no problem but couldn’t get new belt on, old one was ok to use again so he put that on again. Said even with the adjuster fully in it was silly tight to get on! It now Squeak’s on tick over as well, goes quiet when you put any revs on though??
Was going to wove it a squirt of ptfe spray??

Speak to @Al2O3 you might want a Gates belt?

Did you make sure the belt was the correct length, as they have different lengths depending on spec.

Cheers

Belt seemed right putting it along side the other one, new one slightly shorter but only by a couple of mm. I’ll double check part number tomorrow.
Not sure about a Gates belt???

Yeah, I changed to a Gates belt a few months ago and had no squeaking since. Gates are just another brand, but seem to be made of harder rubber. This must allow the flat side of the belt to slide over the flat pulleys. Softer rubber grips and so squeaks.
