Hi guys! I thought here might be the best place to inquire first, I'm after a 101 lt95 bellhousing and mainshaft, or even an entire box. I know these can be hard to get hold of, but would appreciate any advice as to where's best to look, or of anyone on here has any for sale?
Long shot I know, any feedback gratefully received! :) Jas
 
it will just be a std lt95 bellhousing and mainshaft,unless you know different i might have 1 or both

I have a rangerover lt95 box here so thought id do a bit of checking....

The LT 95 was a robust four speed gearbox with the transfer case built into the same enclosure (but they have different fluid reservoirs). One of the nice things about the LT95 was that there were a number of transfer case ratios available and you did not need to pull the box to change them. The gearbox was used on Range Rover through 1983, all 109 Stage 1 V8, all 101 and on 1983 and 1984 V8 Nineties and One Tens. The 101 LT95 is different from the unit used in the early RR or 110 V8s. The biggest difference is the bell housing and input shaft are shorter and the high ratio gear is pretty tall so, unless you're running big rubber you will run out of RPMs pretty quickly. The gear on the top of the box is very short as the 101 has a remote gear linkage. If you're putting it into a different Land Rover you will need to either modify the gear shift lever or source one from an early RR or 110 V8. The LT95 has a central diff so it powers both axles all the time. You'll need CV half shafts in the front axle. The center diff is lockable using a vacuum actuator. This requires a vacuum line to be run from the engine.
 
101 is a lot shorter and has taller gearing I picked a box up and v8 for £100

It's for a trials car as and when one day it's still massively longer than a series box and v8'conversion plate. But coupled to 4.7 diffs it's will be a great low range crawler.

I've shortened a rrc chassis down to 87" and I have a series 3 from when I was 17, so I'm creating a hybrid. The reason I was asking for the bell housing was because I thought it was a lot shorter than the rrc one, in which case I could of moved engine mounts backwards and retained a recessed front in keeping with a series 3. I didn't know ratios were different though, so I may just keep as is and have a flush front. Many thanks again for the responses, Jas

im not sure about the bell housing but the only ratio that will differ is hi gears in t/box there are at least 5 different ratios and simple to change
 
Cheers James, I'll have to have a sit down and think about it properly, if I can find out for definite about the bellhousing, I think it would be the way to go! I already have lt95 box from rangie, just got see how much I can source a short bellhousing for!
 
It is shorter than a Range Rover one by quite a bit. Will measure when I get chance 40 inches seems to ring a bell but I will measure when I'm

It was going to be for the road, but not too much use, a bit of a Sunday drive and secondary vehicle. Input shaft sounds good at that price, any links or phone numbers? Do you have any idea whereto get the bellhousong from
 
I noticed that Safari Engineering Eversley had a bunch of 101s in when I was down there last week. They certainly do vehicle breaking and have a lot of spares in stock for most things, especially ex-Mod vehicles, so maybe give them a call and see if they can help.

Apart from having to use a 90 front end, if you use a Range Rover box in a coil sprung special, the V8 engine is well clear of the footwells, so no cutting about, you can access the rear spark plugs, the engine bay ventilates better and is not as affected by steam from wading etc and the front end does not come off the ground as easily, so you don't break as many front diffs when trialing.
