hi every one
just been looking at my becm settings with faultmate msv2 and discovered its set to police , the options are set to police or normal, if set to police it states may have undesirable effects , any idea what they maybe? thinking of changing to normal setting but its been set to police and havent noticed any probs:confused:

Wonder if police mode makes you a complete ****?????

Dunno what difference it actually makes, change it and find out I doubt it will hurt anything

I have come accross several BECM's with the Police option selected & I have always reset it to normal. Colin (BBSguy) has covered this subject on the BBS support forum. The option is there to take into account the extra relays etc. for equipment fitted above the standard P38. He states that undesirable effects MAY occur if the option is selected, as a result of this, I have always played safe and reset it to "Normal". That said, the BECM's I have worked on with it selected have had non related faults. Selecting the option will not make the car perform any better as that is governed by the engine ecu mapping etc.
The speed limit option can be set at 120 if you wish, this is the maximum speed before the speed limit display comes up on the message centre.

The choice is yours..either leave the setting "As is"..or reset it to "Normal", personally, I would change it unless the car was in fact a Police vehicle previously.

It partially disables the immobiliser. Saves messing about with buttons and EKA codes apparently and gets you off the mark a second or two faster. It could be that the previous owner has had probs with the system (perish the thought).

according to range rovers net it's 113mph limited in ecu

ok, i think ill change it to normal can always change it back, will post results
was never a police veh i am the 2nd owner i knew the first owner
still would be interesting to know exactly what it does
doesnt dissable eka has ive had to use eka a few times

Has no bearing on the immobiliser or EKA, which can be disabled separately within the BECM. The maximum speed is not limited on the car, mine has been driven along the German Autobahn at over 130MPH with the annoying "120 Speed Limit" lit and bleeping away..and yes Gav the mpg dropped to just over 10, plus point was that the Company was picking up the tab !!!!! Plus point was the V8 took it in it's stride and the coolant gauge stayed in the middle.

me too often tramp along over 125 130 over in europe on lpg too and temp is great runs like a dream but afraid I am often sub 10 mpg but she is stable as

that is awesome irish

not sure i would want to go that fast in mine
would prob **** myself

dont mind the speed, but havent had the 4 x 4 that long so still adjusting to it

Handled really well, even though it looks like a brick on wheels !! The engine just seemed to take it in it's stride. Some years ago I had a Rover P6, V8 S, Manual...without all the BECM's, GEMS and all that stuff, just relays, twin S.U.'s and a thing called a distributor.
That was a flying machine, problem was the clutch didn't stand up to the V8 power very well and only lasted about 30000 at most.

On a different note, Er Indoors Vectra V6 aint that bad either..good for 140 without hitting the red and gives 20mpg at that rate
