If I buy an unlocked becm for my p38 does it need the security rescyned with the ecu?

My mechanic thinks my becm has failed as it wont resync after a flat battery

thanks

Probably locked itself out. Are you getting "Engine Immobilised" message on the dash ??

Would be cheaper to get your own becm unlocked.
What P38 is it...Petrol or Diesel.
How have you tried to resynch it?
Your location would also be helpful.

Hi im in north cumbria. I had a flat battery and since then its not started

Its a 4.6 1997, no messages on dash, check engine light does not illuminate when turning on the ignition. its at a local specialist he has tried a resync think he has autologic also has another. They won't sync themselves he thinks its the becm wants to send it off for testing and hopefully repair.

basically if the unlocked one just needs plugged in, then I would do it myself to keep costs down.

If you buy an unlocked becm it still has to be programmed to your car and it needs to be the same level as your own...it's probably an "H" level. You need the Check Engine light on to enable it to start. It sounds as though it's armed itself.
Send either Rick the Pick or myself a PM if you are stuck.

Big thanks to Irishrover who has got me back on the road again :)

on sending my becm he swiftly sorted the problem and got me going again

Thanks for that Des..pleased to be of service.

Basically the Becm had scrambled the VIN and alarmed itself.
