Ok, I know it's been done to death on previous threads but nowhere can I see a conclusion to a problem with the Becker Sat Nav or Harmon Kardon Amp fault / replacement issue.

1st of all, does someone have a wiring diagram of the facelift (04>) high end audio. The Haynes Manual does not have it and all previous threads show earlier models only.

The problem I have with mine is that the sound has suddenly got very tinny and the base speaker just vibrates. Although I have spoken to the main dealer, Halfords and radio repairers it's about 50/50 on the fault being the head unit or the amp, does anyone have experiance of this fault?

If it was the amp does anyone know if the earlier freelander model HK amp STC 60669 will work in place of the 04 model amp XQK100301?

If the only solution is to change the system (either Head unit or Head Unit and amp) has anyone got full details on how to do it and the pitfalls, again previous threads seem to halt without fully addressing the issue.

Any assistance greatfully recieved

Regards

having meesed around with my old 04 hse (with becker nav) and current 04 sport (with in-dash 6 disc head) both with hk, my money is on the amp. don't think there was any wiring change at the model year change and have used the rave/haynes wiring diagrams for the older set-up to sort out issues with the newer one. if yo can get your hands on an older amp just to try, i'm sure it will be fine but if yo go down the route of changing the head I would go back to basics and wire all the speakers direct from the new head unit, for the sake of an hour or so ripping out the sill covers to run the speaker cables i reckon it would save you hours trying to tap into the original harness.....

Thanks Markyzs, I'm on the lookout for an amp to slave in and hopefully it will be the problem. I just don't want to spend hard earned money on one and find the same problem. Saying that I am tempted by the earlier model amp I mentioned as someone is selling new old stock for £45 on ebay, the plug looks the same. Decisions decisions.

easy way to find out..... phone your local dealers with the part number of the old amp and ask them if it has been sub'd by the new one....;)

edit: just found the ad on ebay... thats a bargain price, he lists them as the newer number for the disco 2's so i'd take a punt on it...

Well Markyzs:

I managed to buy a servicable XQK100301 Amp for £55 however the sound was exactly the same so I guess it's the Becker Head Unit! Anyone out there need an amp?

oh man...didn't think of it earlier but it would've been better to get a head unit and tried that first....any standard iso head unit would've worked...sorry :(

I found out yesterday that a guy with a 05 HSE has the very same problem (echo / tinny sound and vibrating woofer) as me. He has tried swopping the becker head unit and that did not cure the problem. So if it's not the amp or the head unit the wiring is the next suspect, maybe a power line or bad earth. I'll ask again if anyone out there has a wiring diagram for the audio in a facelift HSE please or any suggestion what the problem might be. btw, the wiring diagram in the haynes facelift manual is the wrong one for the HSE.

i used the high end audio diagrams on the rave disc for the pre facelift model when looking at mine... won't be far out, would imagine just the head unit wiring a little different but i can't see they'd change anything on the amp/speaker harnesses...

Now have the same fault with the same system in a 54 hse td4 tried a different head unit no change, took sub speaker to "ice" guys (ok it was in Norfolk) seems fairly sure speaker is ok. He did however comment that he had in the past had to replace a few of the amps on these HK systems my question is will a XQK100210 be a direct swap for XQK100301
