You'll love this.... it came with standard alloys which were immaculate, he changed them for black steel modulars then, because I had fitted black Zu's to my Defender, he wanted some of those. The 4x4 place he went to told him that they don't make Zu alloys to fit a Discovery 2 (I know they do) and pointed him at the Terrafirma Beadlock wheels for approx £1k. He has decided to get rid of those now and get some black Zu's.

Those will be this truck's fourth set of wheels within 12 months. He's not an idiot by any means (in fact he's a total diamond) but he's easily led!

That gave me a chuckle alright aye! Sounds like you need to get him right in to the off roading so he's not buying wheels because they look cool :)

Apparently not.

So why arn't double beadlocks?

Don't know why but apparently they're ok.
It's all a bit of a grey area to be honest but, in the event of an accident and the need to make a claim, it would be better not to have single wall beadlock wheels fitted.

Beadlock wheels are not illegal. In fact they are specified as a legal requirement with CTIS. They must be DOT compliant though and something you weld on yourself should not be legal. If you are extremely rich, you can buy a legal, DOT compliant set from Hutchinson Industries (near the Welsh border) and run on nice low tyre pressures although I do not believe that there are many situations in the UK when they are required.
Hutchinson's web site is - http://www.hutchinsoninc.com/CMS/index.php?page=Military-Beadlock
