So, it seems that the BCU is gone in my p38.

Can I get a second hand bcu? The mechanic was mentioning that these need to be 'unlocked'. Is this possible to get?

:behindsofa:

Pity you didn't shout a bit sooner. I have both replacement Becm's and the unlocking software BUT I am off to Scotland tomorrow to deliver the stuff to it's new owner. Plus I'm only an hour from Dublin City Centre.
That's the way it goes !!!

Are you sure it's BECM that's gone and not something like the underbonnet fuse box? The BECM gets blamed for an awful lot of things that are caused by something else.

The BECM seems to be draining the battery flat in about two hours.
RF receivers were disconnected, but no effect. No other fault can be found anywhere else either...

TBH, with the amount of power that its drawing down, I'm surprised the cables haven't started to melt!

Alternator diode pack or fuse box are possibles. Did you take off all the wires from the RF receiver and are you sure you disconnected the RF receiver and not the aerial amp for the radio?
Lastly are you sure it's not a duff battery self discharging?

Its the mechanic who is doing this (I don't know which end of a screw driver is the business bit..). I'll have to trust him when he says he tested all of the above (he mentioned the RF and alternator elements all right). He is reputable though, not a cowboy.

Its a brand new battery.. and a test one was swapped in to see what happens, still drained rapidly.
