jumped in the fender this morning really sluggish to turn over but did start,so when i got home from work checked the battery out,its bloody massive, anyway found both terminals badly corroded with all green **** on them, cleaned them up bit of vaz on the top of the terminals to stop them ****ting up so hoping thats the fault if the battery does need replacing does it have to be so big?

Big is good. You can never have enough amps when cold starting especially as the winter draws in.

i believe the proper type for heavy-duty on a D90/110 is a 668 size. I have the US equivalent of that in my truck and it starts the Diesel in any and all weather with no problems. Yes, it is a huge battery, but weight and size is a very good thing in lead-acid technology.

I am surprised the local motor factors' doesn;t stock that size - here they do - used in a bunch of Beemers and Jags if i recall correctly from the lookup I did when i bought this one.

Had an ODYSSEY battery packed up after 2 years, bloody useless. Now av en Enduroline dog bollocks no probs, en it comes with a 4 year warranty.

I have managed to fit to newmax battery's under my seat, 86 ah each and 1000cca each, wired in parallel giving 12v 172ah 2000cca :)

with a split charge though?

So you don't flatten your starter right?

Nope, all my landy for is off roading and towing the caravan when it's not broke, I couldn't see the point of a split charge when I don't often use the thing, I just don't use the winch much with out the engine running.

I've got a looped Anderson that can be pulled to disconnect the starter batteries earth so it doesn't get discharged if running accessories off the other battery

Optima are WAY WAY overrated! Numax new is your best bet by far I have 2 the motor stands for months and fires up straight away ALWAYS winching they get hammered and alwayd recover. Then have been fitted nearly 4 years no issues at all
