Hi does any one know if i can upgrade the recommended battery for one with a bit more umph, or will it damage the electric :D

if it fits in the battery box and its the same voltage as the one removed then the bigger the better.
while changing the battery it may be worth fitting a battery isolater, 20 years ago i used to be in the forces as a vehicle electrician and though i have forgotten most of it, i do recall old landys suffering from "earth leakage" problems draining the battery when stood, an isolator will solve this problem.

hope that helps.

The regulators in the alternator can be a bit leaky but I've left mine standing for months and it still started - and that was the cheapest battery I could fit. Mine's a petrol with bugger all compression left, so it isn't difficult to turn over . You might need more oomph for a diesel. If the electrics are a bit flaky, especially at low revs, the alternator might need overhauling or replacing with a new, bigger output one.
