That looks like a good bit of kit. The amount of times I've had problems with a car battery and this little thing can tell you straight away if the battery's f*****. I'm going to look on the bay see if you can get them here. Thanks for sharing.
 
well, I have always used an hydrometer, but with so many sealed batteries nowadays, then I think this is a must have addition to the tool box..

Anybody had experience?
 
Good video. Timely too. Mine's started feeling a little weak. Bit surprised as it was brand new from the Battery Megastore 2 years ago and the alternator was new before it went on. Not impressed!

What voltage is you alternator giving, the standard alternator for a 95 is set at 13.8 volts which is not enough to fully charge a lead calcium battery which you have fitted.

Will try and have a look at the weekend. The alternator that went on it was a BMW one as the Land Rover one was double the price. I remember that. Hasn't been an issue for the past 2 years so it cannot be that bad!

A 13.8 volt alternator will be OK for long runs and warm weather but will only bring the battery up to about 80% charged. Cold weather and short runs and it will not be good, the battery will slowly die.
 
Missus has done a LOT of short runs recently. I've got a decent charger so I may give it a top up.

Spot on. 13.8V is what I get.

Still, it is doing pretty well. All but the shortest runs and it seems fine. I'll give it a good top up with a proper charger.

I'll bet nobody ever thought of that before:confused:

I always think that people who buy these things would be better off spending their money on a book (remember books) on basic electrical theory. Then with that knowledge, and a bit of logic, they could work out most of these 'faults' with a basic multi-meter. After all how often do you need to check your battery?

Better a book on practice rather than theory. :D:D
