Was messing with my 90 (97 plate 300tdi) trying to find a battery drain, dont know how I messed up but did, As a result I lost the red battery light on the dash, ie it doesnt come on with the ignition, I took a peek at the bulb itself and that seems fine, checked fuses in cab and they ok too. can anyone point me in right direction to rectify this prob.
Ps keep answers simple because I am no sparky

Have you checked the wiring on the back of the alternator - think it's the small wire that feeds the ignition light

Maybe the battery drain was a shot resistor pack which has now burnt out, is the alterantor in fact knackered now?

have you checked there is power to the light?

lost most of my dash lights the day before its mot but found the circuit board had corroded so a quick clean had it working again

Well still no red light but alternator is putting about 14/15 volts back into the battery so that seems fine, gonna try to test wires back of alternator when get new batts for torch, (bloody dark nights)

Ok then, found battery drain (accidentally) bad connection on rear speaker oddly enough, Also the battery light has returned on startup BUT I have a very dim red light which stays on, dims with the revs and dims again when lights are activated, Battery seems to be charging ok but somethings buggered any ideas any one please.

diode pack is on its way out at a guess.. borrow a good alternator and see if prob goes away

cheers steve
