ok just a spin and a wiggle.

I have water running out hmmm maybe the electronic stat.

So may take fan and shroud out so I can see all. might need tighten. Or I may take the under valence thing off and look up

but yes cheers ok I will check the idler
A water pump breaking up and seizing would do the belt.

viscous fan comes off pretty easy with a couple of 32mm long spanners and a hammer :D

no need for some expensive tools !

and yes remember the thread direction on the fan !

okeydokey guess the fan is coming off after all to check the water pump stat alternator etc

it a new stat put on by yours truly way need tighten if that's leaking.

so basically give them a spin to make sure they are not seazed and check for water leaks at stat and water pump.

Cheers

So no need for costly tools just a 32mm spanner

okeydokey

cheers

Rich

As I said in a previous post - check the stat electrical connection they do leak from there!

lots to do lol I will take fan out and shroud and check all and replace over the next week as I am away on work and not going to get it all done in time.

so I got a V12 Corsa oh ok 12L Corsa for trip lol thanks for all the help guys I will report back soon when I have carried it all out ar as and when I get stuck

Ok none starter.
Tried to get fan of with out tools to no avail.
Got the tools from the car pares shop. 32/36 big spanner. The pulley hold tool with holes the guy sold me had Mnn everything on the back apart from M62 and the blddy thing doesn't fit. So used 32 spanner and 10mm on the nut of pulley.
Am I doing this right. The Fan pulley is the four bolts on the Fan its self ie the hub of where the blades are. I watch vid and they were putting pulley tool almost up against the rad and the 32 spanner in front on the nut. Initially I though it as the pulley on the water pump behind the 32 nut.

My problem now ... facing the windscreen standing in front of rad. used the 32 spanner and 10mm spanner instead of pulley tool to nuts on the fan hub is that the fan pully?

well 32mm spanner pulling down clockwise towards the coolant expansion tank. the moved with the pulley wheel behind on what looks like the water pump pulley with no luck. It seemed to move freely ant clock and looked like the water pump pulley wheel is coming loose with fan. So I stopped and went Clockwise holding nut on fan hub (pulley) or am I wrong. . I gave up I am now confused.

Will tackle in the morning.

Re think if I 32mm clockwise fan should not move with nut or 32mm nut move with fan .

seems to me the pulley wheel behind moves with it.

Sod this im confused.

Anyone I am lost here

it was dark and wet (well my excuse anyways) daylight new day and no rain all day tomorrow. And maybe a little guidance again from you guys

is my pulley wheel on the water pump coming off with fan ?

Cheers guys

Rich

The nut is fixed with the fan
So they will have to spin together

Did you try shocking it loose with a hammer hitting the 32mm spanner attached to the fan nut in the clockwise direction ?

Take a look in the How To section at my Radiator replacement thread...details of fan removal are in that!

Just checked out your how rad Saint Cheers. And got my self a mallet cheers Hippo. Off to crack it again still raining. Oh well.

Most of the work is investigation work once the fan is off. Can I refit Stat if need be. I don't think it has a gasket it has an o ring (I think). I have some gasket dollop (glue) if stat is leaking and can refit I will use, but don't think I can refit water pump as have no spare gasket to replace and presume cant us the current one as when and if I remove it the gasket will split I reckon. Bloke at car shop had no gaskets o rings or water pumps all need to order. SO I think I will check things out today and order what I need.

As above my question can I refit stat with current o ring if so I will not

You should be able to re-use the O Ring on refitment...just give it a lube with Petroleum Jelly first to keep the rubber supple!

And you are quite correct, you won't be able to reuse the Water Pump Gasket....see my Water Pump Replacement How To..!!

ok cant get blddy fan off with the correct tools 32 mm spanner and pulley holder even hit with a mallet

the pulley behind the nut that screws into the water pump? is wobbley and making it hard to turn 32 mm nut while holding. I turned nut anti clock to tighten pulley back up and then tried again to no avail.

if I could undo the four 10mm nuts on pulley and take that off with the fan?

just an idea.

Or any idea how to get this bggr off

Rich

the pulley can't be removed without removing the fan....the fan thread pokes through a cutout on the pulley and is threaded onto the water pump shaft.

If the shaft is wobbling - the pump is fecked big time.

Remeber the thread is Left Handed so you have to turn the 32mm nut in the direction of fan rotation which is turn spanner to the right and pullet to the left.

For space I had to remove the intake ducting....you do need to hold the pulley firmly and it did take a heave to undo the fan nut....

I never have had much luck with the sharp tap method but others report good things - I just used a lot of force and skinned knuckles....again, all this is in the How To.

im going to have to heat this 32mm nut up. is it safe. I was going to use a heat gun, but garage said oxy acetylene.

Is it safe do you think. have you guys done this before

rich major head ache

Hmmmmm.....

No real experience of doing that...but there are a number of components close by you will need to be careful of...

if I cant heat it hmmmm plus gas etc... so they say. and perhaps some of that rust remover you soak bolts and stuff in , could brush that on hmmm
im at a loss here

OK Recovered to garage in the end the took the water pump off and removed the pump / pulley/fan Put it in the vice and un-done the viscous fan nut and they waked the pump as well for £199.20 Labour AS I had all the parts. Job done and all functions well

Thanks for all your help on this guys
