HI, I am new to Land Rover ownership and don't have the best of mechanical knowledge or ability. The lead that connects the starter motor to the battery on my S111 has broken at the starter motor end. It seems that the metal ring that goes around the screw on the end of the starter motor has snapped. Unless some electrical problem has occured and made it fail. Does this lead have a name or part number and do I have to get a replacement from a Land Rover specialist? Thanks in advance, Dave

Dave remove it off your motor take it to a good auto electrician and get a new one fitted to your cable.

First disconnect the EARTH LEAD from your battery.

That big cable at the starter is always LIVE to the Battery PLUS.

ALWAYS disconnect the battery MINUS first.

ALWAYS connect the battery minus LAST

NEVER wear a ring on a finger when working with battery leads.

If you accidentally short circuit the ring (usually with a spanner) the ring goes RED HOT in about a second.

You can imagine the effect, and usually the finger needs taken off.

G'Day Dave,

Nothing at all special about it. ANY car parts shop would stock a suitable lead, you just need to tell them exactly what it is for as they have to provide something capable of handling the amp (Current) draw. It'll take about 5 minutes to remove and re-fit.

Cheers

Kris
