Looking to get a battery impact wrench will only be for Landy home use, I have Dewalt and Makita cordless drills so thinking I might be able to use the batteries from them and just buy a body? What voltage should I get?

I've got 18v snap on which is very good. But being an early one has ni-cad batteries. One is buggered and guess the other will go eventually.
Which when it does I think I'll go with a Milwaukee one.

I've got the latest snap on lithium ion incarnation along with the 3/8 impact wrench and hammer drill bodies. I've also now got their micro impact 3/8 14v tool and waiting for the battery ratchet to go with it :)

What's it like to be really rich?

Used a makita half inch drive at work about 10 years back. Not bad at all for crash barrier repairs when you don't need a post driving rig and compressor.
My neighbour has the snap on. Batteries packed up and an absolute fortune, so he's rebuilt one himself. Still it wouldn't get my crank pulley bolt out. Rigged up my Ingersoll rand 231xp and it took a fraction of a second.
Point being none are as good as pneumatic, not even 110v. They can't access as many tight spots as pneumatic either.

Here's my story:

Bit dear, but very good. it's now a lot dirtier than in the pictures. I had originally wanted something that would take the same batteries as my 18V De Walt cordless drill but eventually I ended up going for something completely different. My De Walt batteries are getting tired now anyway and probably need replacing but the Milwaukee's are still as fresh as a daisy.

I asked on here a while back and ended up going for the milwaukee m18
It is an absolute beast! I've had it a few months now and havent found anything it can't undo
Batteries last ages too
Think I paid 260 for the lot wrench charger 2 batteries and case
We'll worth the money

I'd recommend this one to shift anything you put in front of it Milwaukee M18CHIWF12-402C M18 4.0Ah Lithium Ion FUEL Brushless 1/2&#34 Impact Wrench with Friction Ring | Tool Guru

And this one for using in tight spaces and for lighter stuff Milwaukee M18CIW12-402C M18 4.0Ah RED Lithium-Ion Fuel Brushless Impact Wrench | Tool Guru

I have built up a collection of Milwaukee stuff now, once you have afew batteries you can just buy other tools as body only. Batteries seem to last really well too.

Christ. I'm far from being rich. I don't drink or smoke and don't blow my cash on fancy clothes etc. but I love tools :)

The way I look at it tools are free, you may buy one but it means that you aren't paying someone else to do the job for you (at a higher price) and at the end on the day you still have the tool. I've got plenty that I've only used a handful of times but I wouldn't do it any other way.

I'd caution against the Clarke (Machine Mart) one. TopCat had one, we used it to run a nut down a threaded bar to try and seat a bush (or something similar, can't remember) .. OK, that isn't really what it's intended for, but it's duty cycle must be pretty damn low 'cos after a couple of minutes work the trigger burned out. Not just the trigger but the wiring and the motor!

It also only barely undid a steel wheel nut that was at correct torque. I'm not sure it would have coped with all four.

OK, it was well used and quite old, but tc always had two batteries with it, cycled them and used it correctly but even so, it wasn't that impressive to me!

I'd guess that the price, against a Milwaukee, means for a DIY er it looks good, but it really is a DIY, occasional use, piece of kit.

I'm most impressed with Milwaukee tools. I also have one of their 1500w corded drills which is very powerful and doesn't overheat during extended use. I can drill holes with masonry core cutters, make holes in joists for pipes and wires and drill through 3ft walls and whilst it gets warm it doesn't show any signs of serious overwork like my big Elu drill does. If I had loads of money I'd get more of their things.
