Just a quick thought for the early M62 engine 4.4 V8. A lot of people try a battery reset on the L322 trying to cure the odd problem. Battery terminals off and then jumper wire between pos and negative to drain all power out of Ecu and reset it to factory spec. The early BMW models won’t do this as they have a different set of electronics and ecu.
 
I was about to say that.. connect the terminals and you'll get some lovely pops and bangs, maybe even an exploded battery
Connect the leads together and you'll get.. connected leads!
