can any body help with my battery drain problem? I have disconnected the rf receiver which I read on an older forum ,but now it wont open on the fob even if I am really close to the door, its a 1998 r reg 2.5dse,thanks new member.

Which wire did you disconnect from the RF receiver? You should have disconnected the aerial wire and it should still open with the FOB if you stand close the the rear offside window, if you disconnected the power to the RF receiver it may confuse the BECM which will stay awake and drain your battery.

I unplugged the white plug with three wires and the single blue wire, the only thing I could see with an aerial wire was an am/fm for the radio ?

You should have unplugged the single blue wire I think, certainly not the three wires. You can tell which is the aerial wire as it goes up to the window glass which has the aerial printed on it.

Yes it is the blue wire,I hope this cures my problem I will soon no tomorrow morning thanks once again Datatek for your help.

Well the battery was fine this morning for the first time since I bought 6 weeks ago.:):) thats made my day cheers.

Having proved it's the RF receiver, get yourself a new one when you can as they can continue to cause problems even with the aerial removed.

You can find the right part number for the latest spec receiver somewhere on the forum:D:D

Always possible he got a duff one, or it was not the latest spec. From what I have read, the latest spec is pretty bomb proof, but there are I think 3 modified versions and I believe only the last one is good.

ok I will have a look,I am wondering if this would sort out my brothers problem,he forgets about having his keys on him in the house and in the morning his car is unlocked he has an 03 freelander?

Drivers side, just below rear parcel shelf. A square black plastic box with no markings on it. The other box in the same area is a blue transparent one which is a radio amp.

DO NOT buy a RF receiver from ebay, people buy the updated one and sell the old one in the new box!!! not happened to me as i got mine from a real shop, (you know the one with real people in...that talk to you and serve you, remember that? ahh them were the days (when we had a real butchers and all that, anyway i digress) but you been warned, i did warn others but they took no heed from me went to ebay...low and behold...it was still the same as the old one, and they just couldn't figurer out why, and some of them saved as much as £20 getting it from ebay.....then they went to a shop (see description of shop above for them of you that are confused) and got one.....

I'll second dopeys comment, if you buy a new receiver, get it from the stealer and go in armed with the part number of the latest version or they may sell you an old one! I think eightinavee posted the correct part number a while back.
