Hi All,
Just found this site!
I have 2 problems.
1/ Battery drains if vehicle is not used for 3 days. I have new battery, had alternator re-con. Found that if vehicle is left away from home it seems ok.
Have heard about mobile phone masts causing problems! so have tried a couple of different recievers for the c/locking, still drains, so have to disconnect battery every time after use, a right pain!!

2/ MPG read out on dash shows 8-9mpg! but I get more like 18 by calculation. Have replaced the 2 sensors things that go in the exhaust as
emmisions are always a bit iffy.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks for reply, you managed to guess its a P38, I forgot to say
that its a 95 4.0SE.
I will try putting a switch in, does it matter want type?

Any ideas re MPG readout?

Hello again,
Don't worry about a switch yet - if your problem is with the remote receiver, take out it's plug with the three wires and you should find that Rangie goes to sleep normally.

Two Rangies.

Hi,
That seems like a good idea.
This might sound silly but, I asume I lock it via the drives door, is the alarm still
armed?

Thanks again
Storm

Two Rangies, isn't it the other plug that needs to be taken out, ie the connection from the window antenna to the RF Receiver? See: http://rangerovers.net/repairdetails/becm/alarm.html

I've read the pages on rangerovers.net and they seem to conflict, one person says disconnect the plug with the 3 wires, the other suggests the antenna lead. Can anyone clarify?
Thanks,
Robert

Hello again,

No conflict there.

If you take off the plug with the single wire which is the aerial lead, then the receiver will only activate if it hears a signal that is strong enough that an aerial is not needed - i.e. putting your remote against the rear window will still operate the locks even if the aerial lead is missing. A strong enough foreign radio transmission will still wake up the BeCM and drain the battery as at http://rangerovers.net/repairdetails/electrical/batdrain.html
This all assumes that your battery is being drained by Rangie being regularly woken up.

If you take off the 3 wire plug, then there is no possibility that the receiver can work at all and will not work the locks by remote and therefore cannot wake up the BeCM.

It appears that some people just take off the aerial lead and the spurious radio signal which either wakes the Brain or blocks the locking system is then not strong enough to interfere with normal operation.

Two Rangies.

Many thanks to Two Rangies. ;)
I removed the wire which goes to the aerial, thinking if a rogue signal was waking becm, it may not get picked up by Rangie & drain battery.
This seems to of worked. I have left Rangie for 2 weeks & then started fine on first turn of engine. I can still lock & unlock with the remote but only at 9" (230mm) from drivers door handle.
It sounds like of I should of removed the other wire & disconnected the receiver, if problem comes back I now know what to do.

Once again, many thanks I can now leave Rangie knowing she is going to start on my return.

Storm:)
