the black box in yer pic looks suspect.....how is it wired into the circuit? i have on old '54 morris minor that had a seperate v-regulator. couldnt find an alternator to suite coz they all have a built in v-regulator, so i had to take it outta the loop and was fine after that.

bushtoy - the black box is for the glow plugs I think, it has a + pick up from the battery and earths through the wing.

I don't think the landy has a seperate voltage regulator (I could be wrong tho!) as the engine is a 2ltr Perkis Prima (montego turbo diesel) and has a brand new modern 3 pin alternator on it - listed as suitable for montego td

redhand - with all the lights on and main beam voltage drops down to 11.5V, after 5 minutes of idle it is upto 12V (still lower than battery with engine off). However if I blip the throttle it immediatly drops down to 11.5V again.

either the altenator is fooked or the battery is heavily sulphated.
borrow another battery to try and if it's still the same then you will know it's the altenator.

Treworgey 90 - brand new batt, brand new alt.... damn !
am getting somebody (experienced !!) to have a look at it tomorrow... should be able to tell you more. I am thinking that me brand new alt is kapput.

more pics of black box... can anybody confirm what it is ?

yup, looks like an old fashioned voltage regulator to me.
if it's still wired in circuit, and the altenator has also got it's own one built in, fook knows what will happen.
I certainly wouldn't expect the charging circuit to work propper.

but its a series , its should either have a lucas control box with a dynamo or a lucas ACR alt with built in regulator, certainly shunt have bosch bits

I think the top part could be from the montego turbo conversion, I have googled the serial and comes back as a heater plug relay, not sure about the box under it (one with yellow paint)....

the yellow paint one looks like a basic relay. must b a dud alternator u got or yer bettery is completely poked. have u tried with the new battery connected? test the voltage b4 you connect it, then connect and check again....should hold a constant 13.5 to 13.8 v with motor running. if it still drops off when u rev or switch on anciliarys, then it can only b yr alt.
