All my vehicles (three tractors two landrovers) are fitted with 663 type batterys, make Charger heavy duty of 710 cca.all supplied by my local agricultural parts dealer.
My son eventually came back with the 90 last night, on looking at it, you're correct, the light does have a "choke" symbol on it which is incorrect as it's a diesel, that proves that Landrover were too lazy to have 2 different sets of dash lights, and used the old V8 petrol dash in the diesel models as well.
Anyway, you've now learnt the correct way to start it, if you start it like that wheneever it's been stood for a good few hours, it'll be fine.
Higher spec batteries will not damage anything on the vehicle.
A battery is only a *storeroom* for the electricity (for want of a better way to put it)
Fords used to put the smallest battery they could on their cars (might still do!) and if the car didn't start within the first couple of tries, then the battery was flat, whereas a larger capacity battery will give you a lot more tries.
On some 4x4's where you can't get a 2nd battery, if you intend to use an electric winch, then it's best to get the highest capacity battery that you can get.
