Help :D.

My friends have completely fried my brain (which isn’t hard these days)

I need a new battery for my Defender But I don’t want a massive one. It currently has two, one is a small car battery just for emergencies. It’s currently running on that. Don’t say the same as the knackered one because that was one someone put in it when I left something turned on for a month and never ran it ( and yes I’m putting an isolator on as it’s the second time I’ve done that )

I want something which will run the vehicle and the winch (not used much) Eventually I’d like to put two the same in it with a split charger but not looking at doing that this week.

No technical terms please I won’t have a clue what you are talking about.

Links to ones which would do the job and fit two in the box would be appreciated

Thanks

There was a thread about batteries a few days back. See if I can’t find it.

Look at the ones from Halfords. Take your pick and pay your money.

Get a big one.
I was running a new smaller battery and needed preheat to start engine in icy conditions even when fully charged. I am now using the big battery from the rrc and it starts even from freezing cold with no trouble. Big battery will cover winch as well, run the engine when using it if you can.

I have no idea how much power my winch uses (that’s a technical question lol). I do t want a really big battery. My Landy is running fine and starting in minus temperatures with the little car one It ran fine and powered the winch as well on whatever the battery my mate stuck in it (not a Landy battery). I want the most powerful one of a size I can fit 2 in eventually when I get the split charger etc. At the moment one and the little car battery would do. It’s a 200tdi so not full of electronic ****e to run :D

Oh and just to explain as I do t come on here as much as I used to. I’m useless with technical stuff and can’t follow instructions given on here at all. Previous **** ups were the snorkel I tried to fit with instructions from here. Then there was changing the fan, also with instructions from here, never hot further than trying to remove the black cover thing. I got it stuck. And don’t even mention the magnetic CB aerial. James Martin and Turboman know :D

Means absolutely nothing to me I’ve looked on there and other sites. They don’t tell me what will fit. I want to know what someone else has fit and works :D.

Ok, what engine do you have and what winch do you have? You don’t need to know the tech reasons why I ask the questions but we need to know so we can advise the right sized battery. If a battery is recommended that doesn’t have the correct CCA rating, you won’t be able to kick over the engine and if the battery is too puny it will do bugger all in the winch department.

Failing all that, I’ll nip out and take a pic of what I’ve just fitted and post it for you.

M

Edited: sorry just reread and noted eng size. Will nip out in the morning and check box size but you can fit a second battery under the passenger seat and still work in a splitter.

Thank you The battery is already in a box under the passenger seat. In fact two of them are, but neither are Landy batteries. One is knackered because I left stuff turned on and didn’t notice as it was parked up in the garage for a few weeks. It’s currently running and starting very well on a battery out of my mondeo which was in there for emergency’s. Miracle it worked at all considering it has been sitting there for six months with no charge going into it. It’s Not working the winch obviously.

Are you taking the **** Mr Martin ;D. I might be stupid but I can read the word TRACTOR. And I want to fit 2 in :D
thats what we fit tractor batteries as they have the guts to start 3-4 litre diesels and you need to ensure the battery poles are the right way round as in link for a landy, your best bet is to go to halfords with a ruler and pick the biggest that will fit allowing a smaller one as back up or as an equal pair if you prefer, taking note of pole position then write down the numbers and google them halfords arent cheap

How do you know your battery is karput.

Fit a new one if you want a new one but have you tried charging it.

Yuasa 5000 Silver, however, I'm carrying it as an auxiliary. Still got my little summer battery fitted.
