I'm starting to think you lot are a jinx ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿคฃ Just went out to the Golden Girl, put key in lock, only opened driver's door.....ok,,,, , try again, still no joy on other doors. So I take the key out. And here comes Billy Barrel with it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Phoned mechanic, before phoning RAC, ( @Def90man will understand that one in a rural-rural area ) treat it as a lock out when you phone RAC says he. So I phone RAC , to be met with "oh I'm not sure if we cover that". So I mention lockout several, times whilst continuing to chat. Subliminal messaging, etc. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ Off she goes to speak to manager, comes back and says " It's been approved as a lockout". ๐Ÿ˜
And here I sit with my beautiful expensive paperweight in the parking bay. Just waiting to see how big a job it is ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜”
The point of the thread? Has anyone else dealt with this one?

Perhaps, like the P38, the key mechanism is not made for regular use as it is the FOB that is normally used to lock and unlock.

When you open the door there is a rubber bung level with the handle if you remove it there is a screw which holds the handle in place, might be possible that the screw has fallen out and the screw has fallen down into the door cavity. You have to make sure when putting the handle back that it lines up with the latch mechanism or it won't open the door.

And thatโ€™s the beauty of not having to lock my mighty 90๐Ÿค” (donโ€™t think the locks work anyway) but three of my Mates are mechanics/engineers so it wouldnโ€™t be a problem anyway ๐Ÿคช

I said to the mechanic today, "I'm not bothered about it being locked here, but I need it to lock when I go back amongst the jungle next month" ๐Ÿคฃ

theres a rod with the end like a philips driver end breaks off the end of the key barrel, if the barrels out a driver of the right size will unlock it

I've put the barrel back in, for now. One less place for water to get in ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿคฃ I'll take it out tomorrow and shine a torch in. Good news is mechanic has an abandoned L322 sitting in yard. So might be able to scavange parts if needed.

The handle is where it should be. It's the barrel that has completely left the structure. However, handle doesn't work. I'm thinking maybe the rod , or spring. But honestly don't know and won't until I can get covered space to take door card out.

I've still not managed to get garage to have a look but trying to pre-empt his " yeah you'll have to wait for part to be delivered" once he actually takes it in to look.
Is the end part as per image below? Also do you know if they're interchangeable? Lrcat has it as a separate part from barrel and when barrel came out, there was no pin on the end.
Just hoping I might be able to buy a pin, rather than having to change barrel.

the bit that holds it all together at the end of the housing may have broke, thing to do is undue the nut on the inside of the door lip and take the lock part out and see

Thanks. Will do when I get a chance. I'm trying to find the replacement part. So far only cheap Chinese parts online ( the ones you said to stay away from.) Messaged a guy on the bay who is breaking an L322, with no response. Next port of call is Gentlemen of Salvage ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Well that was a pleasant surprise. I bought a replacement unit for the pin, etc. Took the Golden Girl to mechanic this morning. Surprised him by having part with me. We still weren't sure, but, turns out it was good advice by you folks, and good guess on ours.
One ring had snapped, causing the barrel and pin mechanism to have a falling out and separate. A new ring and the barrel and pin mechanism are now back together. She was then back in my loving hands within a couple of hours of dropping her off.
Happy, happy me ๐Ÿ˜

P.s special thanks to @badfluffy I bought the 'doesn't fit' kit, in the hope I would only need the rings, as couldn't get a complete genuine unit at that point. The kit was sitting in the kitchen for days, whilst I searched for genuine unit. Finally got one from Gentlemen of Salvage but it didn't arrive in time. So wandered down with the 'it doesn't fit ' kit, with fingers crossed. Thankfully he only needed one part out of the kit. But if I didn't have the kit, she would still be sat at the garage. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

keep all the unused bits they may come in handy next time

They're now living happily with the other L322 Justins, where the door, and ignition barrel set will join them on arrival. Oddly enough the mechanic said the other bits, in the pack, look like they are for other Land Rovers not the L322. Didn't think of it at the time but maybe that's why the complete unit doesn't fit. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
