I'd guess some years back somebody transferred the original and was then given the A suffix.

Someone had taken the original plates of my one also, good of dvla to ask if you wanted age related ones.
 
Wow that is nice. Takes me back as my first Landy was a 1958 series 2 though was an early 2 1/4. That should be restored :)
