Here's one for you...

transplanted the 200Tdi into mine a few months ago, dodgy radiator etc and the temp guage is reading just at the top of the white mark.

Now looking around before hand i realised that you can either get an adaptor to take the old 19J sensor in the 200Tdi block or change the temp guage or just judge it by the reading you get which from what i've read is about halfway on the 19J gauge with a 200Tdi shoved in.

Anyway i bought a new rad and thermostat, fitted and the temp guage is still reading above the halfway mark when at operating temp and shoots into the void between the white n red when under load ( which is normal for a 19J injun ).

However, and here's the question, i put a Defender 200Tdi into mine and not a Disco, now would the temp sensor be calibrated to the 19J gauge as its the same model or do i still have a fault somewhere?

I could google it but this phone connection takes forever, so thought i'd ask you funky monkeys :D

I would try the sensor adaptor first as i would be very surprised at a 200 running that hot.

iv got a 200tdi disco engine in my 90 and its the same paul sits at half way round town but when on the motorway it reads just short of the red.
iv been told to put a 200tdi defender gauge in and all will be well

I had the same concern after my transplant (!) - I bought one of those IR thermometers off eBay. Goodbye guess-work!

I've now got a TIM temperature guage which came with its own sensor - all good now :)

Useless without a link... ;)

I understand what you're all saying but my point is, I have a def 200tdi and not a disco, so is there a need for an adapter as the gauges will be the same in the dash?

my mate has the same problem his temp gauge sitts 3/4 but his is a genuine 200, paul have you changed the temp gauge for a genuine 200 one coz when my other mate done the conversion from td to 200tdi his was doing the same till he changed the gauge for a genuine 200 one,, fook know wot the difference is but it worked

aye could be that, i ' thought' that the defender temp gauge would be the same as the 90 gauge and the sensor fitting slightly different due to the thermostat housing being slightly different on a 200 ( 19j it's part of the head and not separate ) regardless of whether its a def or disco, although thinking about it i believe the thermostat housing is slightly different on the disco version to a defender...not sure on that one.

I'll bite the bullet and see if the defender 200 makes a difference to the gauge or not.

are we in cahoots with ebay all of a sudden???

why is it if i type thermostat housing and it automatically links to ebay?
