Read all the replies to this and I can't believe how bitter you lot are - must be the results of long-term Range Rover ownership I suppose.

That is a fabulous car for the money - all of the running gear was renewed at 60000 miles so in fact the engine has done 57000 miles - nothing for a chevy - the factory 6.3 small block even has a roller cam so that doesn't even wear out and the TPI (Tuned Port Injection) fuel system is both idiot and bomb-proof.

I would have thought as Range Rover enthusiasts you would at least have appreciated the engineering that went into it.

having driven another example of the type last year I can say it was a truly fantastic car and what LR should have built in the first place instead of inserting a puny strangled 4.6 that couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding!

I agree :D

I think thou doth Protest too much.. It's a range rover even if the engine is bombproof and (if it is a genuine overfinch) I've lost count of the number of em I've seen on ere.. it's still a rotbox landy with ****e electrics and lousy build quality. which an oversized engine is only going to make worst..

Agree that it's a cool car but 7k is way to steep for a P38 regardless of the model.

What is with the random switches and gauges scattered all over the place? Lovely drill holes in the dash are a nice touch too. Given how cheap L322s are getting, I think high value P38s are going to going to be a much harder sale. I've seen a lot of 5L+ P38s turning up for about the same money as a early L322 and the P38s just sit unsold while the L322s fly.

The P38 hasn't aged well, although on the plus they are getting cheap enough where owners can experiment with making them better offroaders. Since you can get a decent P38 for about 1.5-2k or a ruined Defender for the same value.

I think we might see P38 shells rolling on coils with all the electronics gutted from them before long. No rust problems found on the standard offroad mules, RR looks but with a simple motor and gearbox (say a TD5 or 300TDi). Throw in some locking diffs and it'd be the perfect car.

The P38 was actually one of the best built Range Rovers....hardly any of them succomb to rot like other Landies....

What they do succomb to is neglected maintenance, misunderstood electronics (which are a tad unreliable admittedly, but still totally fixable), uncaring owners and lack of owners who are willing to deal with all the above.

Yes LR build quality is a bit iffy, but to own a Landy is what that is all about....its a true lifestyle...

If I had £7k sitting about, i'd have made the offer for it without a second thought!

+1 on that.
If it's been as well cared for as it looks then i'd certainly be up for it if i had 7k burning a hole in my pocket.

Griffman what you have to consider is many landy owner are working to keep them on the road at great expense. Anything non standard bumps that up expendentially. An exclusive motor is when its new. 10/15/20 years later not so much

But would you rather have that or a nice early L322 with all the toys?

Prefer that any day over an early l322 if I hadn't just rebuilt my engine I would have bought that, looks nice example as well as only 25 built ,makes it more special, everywhere you look there are l322s going about that's why I prefer the p38

I happen bto think p38s have aged well. Build quality is pretty good compared to the shocking build quality of l322s and the sports. Its the ****e british engineering that lets them down. But i think that is also the attraction of the things and why we have them!

But would you rather have that or a nice early L322 with all the toys?

I'd have that over an L322 any day of the week. I wouldn't go near an early model L322. I generally woudn't buy an early model of anything (could be an exception in this case though :))....too many manufacturers use their customers as test beds for new models....Landrover being one of the worst for this.
Personal opinion but i dont think the interior of the L322 is anywhere near the quality of the P38 either.
