Hi all, just a quick one - and hopefully a cheap one .. my 1999 Freelander makes a knocking/banging noise when turning, seems to drive well apart from that (it's a project that I've not owned very long and my first LR) any ideas on what it could be? Cheers.

Freelander's suffer from drive train problems. So make sure you check it has 4 identical tyres fitted with least worn on the rear. If not then the VCU goes stiff, overloading the IRD, which can literally explode. So whenever there's noises, particularly when turning corners, the first thing to check is for drive train problems.

Thanks Nodge68. Just one thing which I forgot to mention. We have a small plot of land and when I drove the Freelander slowly off road it didn't seem to make the noise, it just seems to be when I'm on normal roads.
