Was going to change ball joints on drivers side whilst I have the drive shaft loose is there any specific tools I would need to change them they are OK at moment but just thought preventative measure whilst things were stripped

you need to press them out and need an appropriate press to do it and if you do change them pay extra for quality ones, the manual states you get three (IIRC) ball joint changes per hub carrier

The rubber boot perishes long before the ball joint goes. I had an MOT failure a few years back because of this. Sealed it up with some black silicone, took it to another tester, and it passed.
Now it just comes up as an advisory on every test since.

You need a bit of kit like mine, put the new ball joints in the freezer overnight and use a bit of heat to get the old ones out

Apart from ball joint removal tools is there any specific tools that would be needed to change the ball joints just planning it out incase I do them in future

A good 15mm socket to remove 4 hub/bearing bolts behind the hub carrier. Preferably a 6 pan socket and not 12pan.;)

Strangely enough, another member posted this yesterday:

Also, this guide to changing the CV boot might be of use. Not sure who wrote it but clearly the guy's a legend in his own mind's eye. {Bonus points for where the quote came from!]

Just noticed the guide seems to have got corrupted at some stage when it was transferred from the old site.

If you don't have to move cone on the bottom ball joint then don't!! unless it's out of alignment?
