When I travel on a dirt road but all seems firm there is a rattle from the front RH wheel. when I apply brakes it goes away. It sounds like the brake pads are loose. I have removed the wheel and tried to move the pads but they seem firm and I can't see anything loose. Any ideas guys and girls?

Take wheel off and have a look. If the d4 is fitted with disc protector plate it may have come loose.

Also have a look for even ware on the disc and pads you should find your problem .
If not buy a good old D2

Thanks DeanoD2TD5 for your feedback will check out in the next week. If I get a one more reply from a D1 owner and add them to the your reply and the other D1 reply I will have my D4 Ha Ha

It can be checked very simply.

1) set disco to off road height
2) jack up offending corner
3) grab hold of wheel and wobble/shake. Look for movement in all bushes
4) if step 3 doesn't show fault place on axle stands and remove wheel. Using a pry bar manipulate all bushed joints until offending bush is found.
5) offending bush will most probably not be a service item and the entire wish bone will need replacing should it be found at fault.

Had this problem on my disco. Replaced front wishbone in about 5hrs (first time I'd done it) and will be rusted solid. YouTube discovery front wishbone removal for full details....

Main stealer wanted £900 to do it. I did it for £300 (including parts, tea bags, loads of plus gas and cutting disks for grinder)

Hope that helps

Thanks Littlewill. Its a Public Holiday here today so will have a look at it today. We are very lucky out here they don't use salt so everything underneath still looks like new. No rust. I will give you a progress report for interest sake. I appreciate your feedback.

Hi Littlewill and deanoD2TD5 just some feedback on the front wheel rattle. Turned out to be a worn calliper pin.
Only found it by levering everything that hinged. Wishbone bushes were all fine may have been changed before I bought the Disco as they look fairly new with no play. Thanks for all the interest much appreciated.
